RickH
Might seem a dumb question, but can someone briefly describe the function and use of a power cap for me, ta.
Blimey
Courtesy of last max power: Power caps store electrical power and then very quickly release on demand yo your amp when its being driven had (with low or loud sub bass). It can sometimes be called a stiffening cap, which means it helps strenghten the power supply to your amplifier from your battery. It works by sitting in parrallel with your positive power lead from your car battery. You simply run a positive from your battery, but instead of going straight to your amp, it goes via the cap. A power cap should be mounted as close to the amp as possible to maximise its effect. You may see cap manufacturers mention ESR and leakage. ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) is the internal resistance of the cap (ie how easily/quickly power can flow in and out of the cap) so the lower the ESR calue is, the better the cap is. Leakage is difficult to quantify, so Fcuk it.
