Turbo'ed Zetec

Recommended Posts

All depends on spec m8, IMO theres the chuck a turbo and I/C on along with 5th injector and decomp plate or machined pistons.

Then theres the proper way with management, big injectors, pukka turbo and zaust, proper I/C, good cooling and breather system with forged pistons and steel rods etc...

The first effort can see over 200bhp but trust me standard machined pistons dont like boost ;)

The second set-up + other work etc.... can see anywhere between 250bhp - 400bhp depending on what mods are done.

Previously I had a 1.8 zetec turbo with DTA management and 803 injectors, hybrid etc.... and it made 180 @ the wheels which is well over 200bhp @ the fly at only 12psi!!!! But I had used standard machined pistons which were fine at around 6 - 8 psi and did 3k miles without probs but they shat emselves bigtime when the boost was turned up, hence goin 2.1 with pukka everything!

Even in the 1.8 spec it was very fast and probally did 0 - 60 in around 6 - 6.5 secs which dont sound that impressive but you've gotta look past this 0 - 60 stuff cus once its got grip it'll beat most things in a straight line including scoobs and cossies (obviously not the big power boys).

Gonna run the new set-up at 250bhp at first and see how usable it is, and then prob have a seperate map around 300bhp for 1/4 mile etc...

Are you thinkin of doin it or just interested as I've been playin about with zetec turbos for over a year now and have encountered and overcome so many probs you wont beleave, it aint just engine mods. Let us know if you want any info.

5k is enough for a full monty whup ass zetec turbo! :D

Depends what you allready have or can get hold of.

Main things to get right are;

Internals. Deffo get low comp forged pistons, uprated bolts, bearings, gaskets etc.... rods if you've got enough.

Decent I/C, either a one off, Pace or GRS.

Make sure cooling system is efficient and all workin properly.

Manifold, either ERST, focus sport, or a one off. No need for anythin fancy unless goin for big BHP.

Decent zaust, and breathing.

Good turbo. I'm usin a hybrid cossie T25/28 purely for the fact it spins up so easily a is good for 300bhp, but down to personell choice/requirements.

Aftermarket management.. I'm usin DTA but again its down to preference/funds/requirements, as FRST and cossie can and have been used.

Fuelling, deffo dont go 5th injector if ya serious. Either get a modded fuel rail and use cossie 803's or a funky 8 injector setup with em tapped into inlet manifold. (management needed)

Standard zetec spark plugs dont like more than 14psi and will melt after this so get the head machined for RST or cossie ones (fuel reg needed)

Breather system wont go a miss and the zetec need original blanking off and a new one tapped on the back of the block along with oil feed for the turbo from the sump.

Go 2.0l or 2.1 ;)

Probally fogot sommat, but if you need to know anything else I'm sure I've probally come up against it!

Who did you get the qoute from if you dont mind.

And dont forget decent suspension and big brakes if you aint allready got em.

5 grand is a realistic qoute (proper job), just dont go to Severn Valley or Van Aaken.

this includes a new engine supplied and fiited (2.0 focus engine) and engine tuned with all parts supplied and fitted
