Morning people, only joined yesterday, recently bought 1999 (V Reg) 1.6l zetec escort finess, sorry no mod,s am a bit of a silly old git, jsut a couple of general questions if anybody can help, (just to show my age last ford I had was a ford cortina 1.6 the yellow with the black vinal roof for those of you that can remember them!!!!!!!! ), right paid £650 for the escort with 12 month ticket, phoned garage that did it and no advisories, new exhaust, suspension arm, brakes and the usual stuff body work in above avarege nick, interior in good nick, drives well, but seams to wobble a bit round corners, slight vibration through steering at the 65 to 75 mph mark, (yes, had tracking and balanceing done myself still doing it), any idieas, and is there anything that I should keep an eye on that is a common fault (if any)

many thanks people

Found it. Welcome to evo mate.

Common faults with mk6s (yours is a bit younger than all the ones ive had so the problems may be yet to rear their ugly heads.

Rear chassis rails rust through, you may want to check urs and underseal them if theyre ok,if not they will fail an MOT next year or the year after..

Wishbones dont last too well, especially cheap pattern ones.

Boot connectors like the heated screen plug can go on the fritz cos they need cleaning.

Front brakes are useless for enthusiastic driving, but they are easily upgraded to larger diameter discs and ford calipers from mondeos of various specs

Your wobble problem could be a number of things, How are ur bearings?

Wouldn't be so sure mate. My car passed an MOT with a split CV boot and dead CV joint that was howling at any speed over 50.

It shouldn't wobble so something is amiss. Maybe if you have a local member to you he could take a look instead of taking it to a garage? If you were local to me i'd certainly help you out. What county are you in?
