onehotminute_191
im thinking of getting an external hard drive or media drive to store all my photos, videos and music. (running out of space on the laptop) the benefit of a media drive being that it'll plug straight into the tv and can be capable of HD video via HDMI. the benfit of an external hard drive being cheaper for the size and easily upgradeable and can use more than one drive. but will the external hard drive plug into the PS3 and be able to play the video from it? vinnyvangough
As far as i am aware it will. Not tried it myself but am sure it will as its only another external source, such as a mobile or something

Lee_2f2f
if its an external hard drive that reads as a mass storage device, or external hard drive, then it should be ok.... but this is my example: Integral usb 2.0 External Hard drive caddy (for internal HDD's) wont read on PS3 because it has self install drivers, so the PS3 does not recognise it. Kingsington USB 2.0 Datatraveler Mem stick - again, this reads because it comes up as "mass storage" where as if it shown up with all strange details then it wont read. Nokia N95 8gb - reads as Mass Storage device, so that works no problem as well. Hope this helps. i heard that it'll read it as long as its formatted FAT32. not NTFS. can give it a try i suppose. Dont see that making any difference, my Datatraveler is Fat format, and my mates WD 1TB HDD was NTFS and it still read ok... wwwd
I have a 500GB external hard drive which stores all my videos, music and photographs and it works perfectly fine with my PS3. Plug it into a free USB slot, switch it on and you can run all the videos, music and photographs through your PS3

wwwd
It will only work if the USB Hard Drive has an external power source. You cannot power a USB Hard Drive using the power from the PS3. That only works on PC's.

Get a USB drive with an external power source and you're on the road to a dreamworld.
