stoo2000
Sounds like your hosts file has been modified It's located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc where C: is your hard drive and Windows is the name of your windows folder. Make a backup of it first, and open it to see if there is anything in it. If there's a load of entries, replace it with a blank file.

shawdreamer
Did you try what I posted above ? Sorry Stoo, aye tried it, was 5 very small files in there, nothing seemed out of place to the untrianed eye but I did as you suggested anyway...... still wont allow me access to windows update. I have noticed tho that even when it redirects me straight away to google the site address is still displayed as http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ that suggests to me that somewhere in my IE somethings been modified to cause it.......e,g spyware/malware suspect again?? If you follow Stoo's steps above, re-install Spybot after.. tried it..... no change? starting to look more and more like complete format and re-install the further I go
