ECU question Stu??? :-)

What is the difference between the "DESK" and "DEEP" ECU? (as I managed to end up with both)

Does any one have a wiring diagram for either

DESK has slightly less ignition advance at the top end compared to DEEP. I guess Ford turned the engine down a bit, but probably not so much that you'd notice.

If you still want it the diagram is here

Where are you reading that from?

Binary compare

Yeah but which tables? There are three spark tables and the strategies differ on how they interpolate so the effective spark angle may not be any different between the two calibrations.

Main spark - other tables appear to be the same

Come on, its in the how to section :D

Trying to get my head around this...

do you mean:

http://www.escortevolution.co.uk/forums/in...showtopic=49026

if so according to auto data,( and the ecu on my desk) the DESK / DEEP ECU are EEC-IV - a 60pin interface (from the ecu to wiring loom plug)

looking at auto data it would appear that my x plate escort has a EEC-V ECU which is 104pin, (not keen on taking my car apart to check right now)

So how would I do the adding the 2.0 ltr ecu to my car :-( is it something you can still do Ian?

Stu your opinion to would be gratefully received too.

Basically I need lots of nice info to work out what needs doing :-)

many thanks in advance!

Another random thought - would somewhere be able to remap the whole ecu of the 1.6 and leave all the wiring, PATS, ECU etc in the same place?

If you still want it the diagram is here

Cheers! that got me into auto data, good bit of kit!

Your current ecu uses flash memory, so you may be able to find someone to remap it - Red Dot racing maybe. Or if you're feeling adventurous get a POOL, LAAN, or HOLD ecu + transceiver (although I think your one will work) + key from an EEC-V Mondeo and lash that in.

The problem with this is not many people will have the calibrations reverse engineered as it'd be such low demand. Re-flashing eec-v's isn't great for custom maps as it's very time consuming (eg, make one change, 5 minutes to write to ecu, re-test).. time consuming means expensive..

It's possible you could piggyback an eec-iv ecu over the top of what you've got just to control the engine.. it'd be more wires to change than if you were already on eec-iv..

God yeh yours is one of the funny ones.

As stu says you could go aftermarket management, or get a loom/ fusebox from an earlier model and we can swap the lot

lol, yeah its a strange beast! I'm tempted to get a loom out another car! be by far the cheapest option!

The conversion will be considerably harder, I probably wouldn't bother to be honest. It'd be easier to throw on aftermarket management (eg megasquirt).

Some one else has been saying megasquirt management, is there anywhere you would recommend in buying it from and which one?

looking at it gives me a head ache! whats this Ford EDIS thing? MS-Extra code? MS1, MS2 or a PnP?

Just want a rough idea to go back to the garage and ask if they are able to do it....

many thanks!

EDIS stands for Electronic DIStributor - the bit that drives the coil. Yours is internal to the ECU, so if you go down the Megasquirt route you'll need to get one and wire this in yourself.

Going down the Megasquirt route is a good idea if you are going to do a lot of engine mods later on, but be warned that it isn't a 'just turn the key and drive away' solution. You are going to have to spend time tweaking all the settings just to get the engine started and running right.

Not true. You can drive coils directly from the MS ECU, if built accordingly. This is indeed preferable, as EDIS is a hack!

what about the plug and play options that are loaded with a base map? would they not be enough to get it started?
