I'M guessing its going to be a Wednesday Thursday Friday college jobby then see where we are I just want it running with out the aid of ny foot on the throttle then it is due for an MOT as well

Then i would advice you buy a new Head Gasket, a proper steel one and the thickest one that will fit and we'll strip the head and re lap the valves back in. That with the RTV'd inlet gasket and steel head gasket, should cure it, i would hope. I guess we'll check the Valve Timing as well just to see.

Well guys I bet you can't wait to read my latest edition of my novel ...

Well It's looking good for the 'scort basically what we discovered is that sine how there was an air leak in my inlet and it wasnt a small one either. Big enough to render my brake servo inoperative and to starve my engine of air so today we got it on the ramp to see if we could find out where it was coming from. We had a look in behind the throttle body and we noticed one of the small vacuum outlets had snapped off this a small hole in the inlet ... HAZZAH! We proclaimed ... let's block it off and start her up ... and guess after all the effort time UPS and downs it had to offer had we cracked it .

No.

Didn't make an ounce of difference ... so gave our self a break from thy we replaced the rear shoes and me being the silly annoying person I am neglected to order brake cylinders so an hour and a bit later when the new ones where delivered we cracked on with it replaced them and we turned our attention back to the air leak I was looking.down on the inlet and noticed something I had never seen before ... "steve" I said to my college lecturer what is this "ahh don't worry about that it goes over there" he says in his normal joke attitude which he replied you donuts basically it was anwhat looks like an EGR valve which had not been connected up ... so basically all my air that had been going into my throttle body and inlet came out this ...

So after we took off the Mondeo I.let and replaced it with the escort one (as it gave.more room in the engine bay being smaller and also didnt have this contraption to also block off) we bolted the inlet onto the engine and ran out of time ... so back tomorrow and hopefully should run better then it did ...

Checks his MOT yea it ran our today ! Not good ... can't even experience it before it fails

its always been said to use the escort inlet as the mondeo one hits the brake bar.

This is true it did hit the brake bar which is another reason why we changed we didn't think there was a difference in the two inlets especially as on the back of the Mondeo inlet it says 1.8/2.0 so we assumed it was the same we never bothered to check the escort one hut when we got them both out and put them side by side there is clear differences

So would I be right in assuming you used the mondeo inlet in the 1st instance? surely Chris should have noticed the difference/fault?

Aye we know the fault but not The cause
