I don't want to clutter your project thread, as it's a good one. I just assumed when you lecture folk left right and centre that you at least could drive.

Mechanical advice has got nothing to do with driving.

Besides, i can drive.

Both of those quotes will change when you have you licence and can drive on public roads.

I don't expect you to appreciate that now, but it's 100% guaranteed.

I agree that when you're driving a car you can feel or listen for problems, i do it without even realising just passengering peoples cars.

And i never said i could drive well. When i say drive i don't mean 'really fast mate' i just mean, i can drive, have been for years (too and from the Scrutineering bay with Dads racers, also paddock testing)

Urrrrrrgh, I know the feeling of everything going wrong mate, what do you plan to do on rectifying the ride height situation?

Didn't realise you couldn't drive on public roads because you didn't have a license, thought I was car wasn't MOT'd etc, mate get on that as your priority, it can be a long ass process getting on the road and you don't want to have spent everything on the car but can take it anywhere.

It's not a problem, that's cars for you, atleast i know it's going to be right and the best i can make it.

Get under the front, check everythig to make sure it is the steering arm, if it is, i'll space them off the rack a bit, but i don't think it's going to be as simple as that. Got a feeling it's the steering column bolt catching the wishbone.

The car isn't MOT'd nor taxed, but it will be soon i hope.

I can't afford to do both and i know it's a weird way to go about it, but if i've got to spend my money on something, i'd rather it be the car, besides, i want it out the back of Pa's truck, his Van is beginning to need some TLC, so whilst that's off the road i'm aiming for him to be using this.

Today, i pulled the little machine out of the truck and hopped out, took the jack round the front of it to jack it up and one of my pissing headlamps is cracked, it just so happens to be there the day after my two little brothers were playing in the truck, so i asked them about it and it all went quiet, so i asked again and anyway, turns out one of them did do it, so i'm royally fecked off to be quite honest.

Anyway i jacked up the front, to see what was causing my steering to lock up on low lows. Turns out it was the steering column bolt catching the wishbone, so i'm likely to be having the wishbones off and modifying them, to give me clearance there, i'll probably also be dropping the centre pivot point on the wishbones to remove the silly camber and get rid of the bump steer it's got, like they used to. I then jacked up the rear and measured my springs so i can go order some up now hopefully.

Just the one picture of the day, my Fused relay for the electric fan arrived and an in line fuse for the waterpump.

Cut down my steering column to pinion bolt today and put a smaller nut on it, it's allowed me to go lower a bit more and i've still got all my steering and good clearance between bolt and wishbone, so i'm quite happy about that.

Found out which aux belt i will need for the electric pump conversion.

And also got my new headlight on.

Yesterday evening i finally built up the enthusiasm to start rubbing my hood down and getting that ready for a repaint, so popped down Halfrauds this morning and picked up some sand paper. After a lot of running around we finally got back to work, so i away i went, to my surprise, i finished rubbing it down quite quickly, so i went ahead and primered it too. Then i ran out of thinner and primer.

I can already tell that if i get the paint on there right it will look much, much better and a lot less orange peel, hopefully the right colour this time too.

Good job mate.

Im confused, the ride height looks spot on now in my opinion, just after you fitted the coilovers and had the clearance problem you had to raise it back up, I admit it did look not a bit too high, but the ride height in your signature looks about right too, but surely those pics were taken on the old shocks?

Is there any safety considerations to take into account when shortening steering assembly fastenings?
