How much to respray a tailgate

Hello all again,

I'm about to start calling round to find a decet quote to respray a Mk6 tailgate to replace my sorry excuse for one. I know prices are gonna vary and do they really need to take the glass out?

I would like it done properly, so inside and out and the paint will need matching to my ampario blue as simply painting it with the colour code might not match.

What I'm lookin for is what people generally think would be a reasonable quote as I have no idea.

Thanks all.

Ive got the same problem but because all the paint is original on my gti im going down the route of trying to find replacement parts with original paint. hopefully i can get a really good match that way and the prices these paint shops charge should be cheaper to. good luck with your car.

Cant find a mint ampario blue lid unfortunately, there is 3 people on here with ampario escorts and all 3 have a note on they sig saying that want a mint boot lol.

Im happy to pay for the shop to paint match too, paint changes very slightly over the years so prolly best just to match it. Under £200 seems reasonable to me.

Cant wait to get it sorted!

Thanks for the responses.

a good body shop can match paint, i was amazed by my local when they matched in new paint on mine, you can not tell!

If you have the money get it matched at a body shop and make sure you start with a rust free one! you may end up getting one with out a spoiler to do this,,,

there's an idea, get one with out a spoiler and add the rs spoiler!

Id say your looking around £200 but u might need to have the quarter panels blended for the colour because there are a few different shades/variants of amparo blue and can be notoriously hard to get an exact match which is why blending may be better option.

Jc is rite in what he said but his is moondust silver which is alot easier to match, mostly it will be which make of paint is being used ie lechler, max Meyer, ici, with different makes of paint they will all match differently, then you have the laquer steer clear of cheap ones there cheap for a reason they look fine when there first applied a. Week later they will look like satin laquer, more expensive one will be alot better.

With any bodyshop you pay for what you get if your unsure ask to see examples of there work.
