Escort_Tom
Hi Everyone, Just bought my first Escort, so thought I'd head over here and sign up and get involved with the community. This is my first Ford (after years of love for the brand, and growing up around them). Iv always grown up around Sporty Fords (Brother and Dad have both owned XR2's from different Mk's) So this is my baby. 1998 1.6 Escort Finesse. Full service history. 88,000 miles on the clock. All the extras that came with this model (cd player/aircon/leccy windows/doors). A lot more comfortable than my previous two cars (A 1991 Vauxhall Nova & 1994 Nissan Micra). She doesn't come without her own problems. Nothing major though. The boot doesn't unlock with the key (have to use the button next to drivers seat) and the drivers side window comes unaligned when rising up....but so far that's it lol As I said, Iv grown up around Fast Fords, and iv always had a passion for the blue oval, so I cant wait to get started working on this one. Here she is: http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w221/tommiboi07/Escort.jpg Forgot to mention. I have already got some parts on the way curtsey of Ebay. Iv ordered a Honeycomb grill & New L.E.D lights for the interior and number plate. Starting small but you got to start somewhere. Escort_Tom
Thanks for the warm welcome guys. At the moment the list is very short. I want to go down that sort of replica route. Im not a massive fan of massive bodykits or anything too over the top. So at the moment its just: Honeycomb grillReplace bulbs with brighter LED style ones. Tinted head lightsTinted rear lights (the red/black look)Would love to get a set of Cosworth/rs style wheels (not to sure what they are called, ill catch up on the escort lingo soon enough lol) Would love to get the RS Bumpers/side skirtsDrop it 40mmRenault Leguna Splitter....Full half leather or Reccaro interior.... ....but now im getting carried away lol Like i said, im new to the Ford scene in this sense, so im open to suggestions lol Edited May 7, 2012 by Escort_Tom

Escort_Tom
So the grill got delivered on Thursday, didnt really have a chance to get out there and fit it over the following days, but with the spot of luck we had with the weather, thought I'd go give it a go. Went out, lifted up the bonnet and realised I had none of the nessasary tools. Nothing a bit of WD40, Plyers and a Allen Key wont fix thought. Heres the end result. tomsy
Looks like your on the roller coaster ride of escort ownership you'l have some highs and lows just look at Naylors suym thread. Regarding your seized boot lock keep spraying penetrating oil in it and trying the key after about a week it might be ok tomsy

Escort_Tom
It was only a matter of time...but my first mechanical themed fault has arisen. The other faults I currently have arnt a massive thing to me, they are just odds and sods that are being sorted as I go along...but now there is an actual issue lol. I have a leak. Of water. From Somewhere. I noticed it 2 days ago and been keeping an eye on it ever since. The leak is in the front drivers side corner, around the water tank. So its pretty obvious who the culprit is. Its just trying to work out where the fault is exactly. It only leaks when the engine is running. The tank is bone dry, all the piping around the tank is dry, yet a tiny puddle forms underneath the car, dripping off the side of the cambelt. Im guessing a pipe problem somewhere along the line? I was reliably informed that the radiator is brand new, So im hoping it has nothing to do with that.... I couldnt get under the car properly so decided to use my phone to get a look into places that I couldnt see...Here is the video I got: http://youtu.be/FNDPEPrquB0 So ANY help you guys can offer would be brilliant. Thanks again guys. Tom
malfis
I think that is 100% leaking water pump (thats why it's leaking when engine running only). Recommended to change every time with timing belt. Edited June 29, 2012 by malfis
