Jones
Car seems to start juddering when revs are above 2k. It only does this when the engine is at normal operating temperature after running for about 20 minutes. Doesn't do it from cold. It's just been serviced by Ford, had new plugs and oil etc. and I used Shell fuel. I've checked plugs and distributor connections, possibly fuel injectors? SLEEMAN
how do you mean juddering? like the engine vibrates which you can feel in the cabin etc? if so check all engine and gearbox mounts any wear or if you can manually rock the engine and gearbox and there is excessive play then change the faulty ones. more than likely even though your car hasn't done many miles the rubber in the mounts have probably perished due to age. Jones
No, it judders, like it would when you've slowed down to much in a high gear, but it does it only when accelerating above 2000 revs.
Jones
Alright so I've been getting this problem more and more now. I'm worried, because I have a long journey to do next week with a company I work for, about 150 miles, so I need to figure out what the problem is. Some conclusions are... Clutch slipping. But it doesn't jump all the time, and i've set off in second and third gears with no problems.Fuel pump. Could be worn, would this cause the problem to be inconsistent like it is though?Spark Plugs. Doubt this very much, if it was the plugs the problem would be consistent, and the plugs are new anyway, it's rare new plugs have incorrect gap measurements but it's always a possibility. eetaylog
Try unplugging your MAF and see if it sorts it.
GingeRS2K
Check your ignition coil pack. Completely random and unthought of, PAS fluid topped-up? Uncles escort estate had that judder/missing at certain revs took everything around the engine apart etc and it was just the PAS fluid a bit low. Topped up and the issue went away. Jones
It's not like a shaking judder like when the wheels are unbalanced, this jumps like the car wants to stall. PAS fluid is at the right level. I'll take out the MAF and see if it helps though. I have no money at all for the next few months, so taking it to a garage to have a look isn't possible at the moment. So I'm just trying to pin-point the problem myself. Just unplug it, itll take you about 5 seconds.
Stu
How about some relevant info.. like what engine is it? If it's a zetec, my money would be on coil pack, leads or a temperature sensor.
Jones
It's a '96 1.4 LX, fuel injected petrol.
Jones
I took the MAF out, I don't think it didn't anything. It started jumping, but only for a few minutes and then went away. It's baffling my brain.
scottybo
change fuel filter, if its partially blocked the car will act like its low on fuel and cough and splutter
Jones
That might be the cheaper first option. But shouldn't it have been changed when it was serviced?
SLEEMAN
sometimes garages don't bother including a fuel filter in services plus i know sometimes the clips on the fuel filters are pretty rubbish and tend to brake. so to them its more hassle than its worth. Jones
I'll give that a bash next month. I know I've got some mechanical things to do on the car in January. I'll be getting the MOT test and most likely have to replace the control arm bushes, which as said in a previous post, I'll be changing both the lower arms. £60 worth spending to be fair. After that I'm gunna have the sills checked, and covered in rust-proofing. Once I know the car is mechanically sound I'll start on the modifying. A future project thread coming soon
