Replacing Door Glass

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm trying to get the rear and front door glass out of my MK3 Orion which I know is the same as the MK5 Escort etc..i took all the panel off, took the rubbers away from window frame, so all i need to know now is how do i remove the glass? it's got this little silver star looking nut thing securing the window to the brace thing, hard to explain, im hoping someone here knows how to do it, noone on the Orion Register knows how to do it it seems like..thanks in advance for the help :D

If i get the glass out so i can use it, it'll save me tons of dosh.

If its the same as a Mk5 then you either need to wind the window right up or right down.

once done you'll be able to access two torque bolts through two holes in the inner panel, taking these out releases the glass from the regulator, then its just a case of winding the window down (or up depending on which way you did it) so that you can take hold of the upper glass edge then just wind the regulator back down while you hold onto the glass (the two will separate)

after that its just some careful tilting and angling to get the glass up and out.

erm Im afraid thats a impact head rivet not a torque bolt, they only come out with some serious drilling.

from the looks of it that isnt like the mk5 setup, unless theres some form of bolt holding the glass onto the top of the regulator then its bonded in..... which is not an easy thing to get out, especially with the glass in one piece.

well im having another look tomorrow, cos i got a feeling that its just sitting in the arm inside some rubber that has probably become more attached to the glass than katie price is to money and plastic surgery lol

did u look at ur mk5 at all supersport?

IIRC Those should slide out of the end of the runner they are in, you need to disconnect something else first though, it is completely possible without drilling anything. It's been a while since I did this and don't have a car I can look at to remind me.
