Rust, MOT failure?

I was checking the sills on my Escort finesse as the MOT is due soon, and noticed some bubbling. After poking it with a screwdriver it made a hole about 1 inch by 1/2 an inch. It is located directly in line with the front door handle and was wondering if this is an MOT failure?

I do know that if it is within 30cm of the seat belt anchorage point then it is a failure but am unsure where that is. Sorry, may be a stupid question but don't want to put it through an MOT if it is blatantly going to fail.

Although the outer sills are made from what appears to be quite thin steel, I believe the entire sill is regarded as the

'structural integrity' of the vehicle, therefore, a rust hole or any signs of serious corrosion on the sill and it will fail the MOT Test, regardless of location.

Also, as the rust hole is in position the of being in line of the door handle, but in the sill, on the other side, inside the car, whether a 3 or 5 door car, the seat belt anchorage points are more or less directly behind the hole, probably within the 30cm prescribed area.

Best ask here for more details:

Are you saying £100 per side for fitted sills is expensive?!

Definite MOT fail btw.

Yes!

I know a couple of good welders, one is £30 and hour and the other is £35. No way is it 3 hours work. It took me less than three hours to do a side on mine and i had to make the panel!

Perhaps we're misunderstanding.... I read it as 'new sills' (as it says), not a spot of welding.

Sills themselves are a few quid, cutting out and welding in new ones is easily 2 hours.

35 quid a side from D&E motor-factors my way (didn't bother shopping around, granted they were patent parts but then again what isn't nowadays)

40 quid a side for the chop out and welding (that's from the mot station that noticed the hole at the front of my Si's sill.... again I didn't bother shopping round as I just did it myself anyway before retesting)
