Customvanman
hi guys first off great site now a little about me I hail from bedford and i just love the 70s style of custom vans, almost to a degree of hating cars. now for quite a while i have been hankering after either an escy van or a maestro van and when this little mk6 came up for the price of a scrap renault five i just couldnt say no!! my daily driver is a 1989 freight rover sherpa semi custom but the mrs HATES it so it has to go for a people carrier at least i can still do it up like a van or i may even plump for an escort estate and panel in the rearmost windows van style...and i have still got my little Escort van so i am still a true vanner now for my little escy as bought with five months mothttp://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss195/austinmaxi555/Custom%20vans/CameraZOOM-20130207103253601_zps7c63317e.jpg the next day customising has started http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss195/austinmaxi555/Custom%20vans/CameraZOOM-20130207105840928_zps8ee7ff0f.jpghttp://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss195/austinmaxi555/Custom%20vans/CameraZOOM-20130207105908060_zpsac08d63a.jpg i have also got a wooden dash to fit, and some more bits from an escy ghia that i hope to win on the bay of E she is currently rolling on what i believe to be sierra gls alloys i will get some wheel pics up soonest. future plans?? i am thinking of oem+ styling with just very subtle mods now can anyone tell me if any of the car fuel caps fit the van as i would love to fit an aero style fuel cap like http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss195/austinmaxi555/Custom%20vans/KGrHqVHJFFDy2kw48BRBVrDo1760_35_zps9a362155.jpg which seem to be available for the mk5 and mk6 cars but not the van I hope you like!! kindest regards Martin
lee grout
Whats the list of subtle mods on the cards then? Also I would of thought the fuel cap will fit a van, not just the car ( depending if its the mk5 sml round cap with key hole in the centre or the mk6 with the flap. Customvanman
Cheers guys, mods on the list are to fully plush up the interior to ghia spec, leccy windows, i dont really get on with recaros or other bucket seats but would like to find either some none bucket ford leathers or velour seats failing that. white rev counter dials possibly digital if i can find out the wiring for the conversion. exterior i hope to gain front fogged bumper, wrap around car style rear bumper and roof spoiler, im not certain about a bodykit but if i do it would have to be subtle, i really would like to find some headlight protectors for it as opposed to morretes or angel eyes. custom rear lights and some underbonnet bling all i have done so far is fit the chrome grill, got a walnut dash trim to go on and have won a walnut gearstick surround on the bay along with the chrome ghia door handles but im awaiting for the guy to let me know how much postage is so i can pay him. all ideas and criticism are fully welcomed Kindest regards Martin
Circle8
That cap will fit if it is for a Mk5 Escort/Mk3 Fiesta. It's not flat though & sticks out a bit, so I didn't bother with mine & kept a standard cap. Put that plastic wood trim in the bin, or get it colour coded, lol! Customvanman
THanks for the reply, about the cap Circle8 now as for colour coded interior trim i think it looks and not in a good way however it would be boring if we all like the same thing. got a few more pics today as well as fitting the plastic wood trim a side view showing the wheels are they sierra gls?http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss195/austinmaxi555/Custom%20vans/CameraZOOM-20130213123158769_zps465e5a07.jpg a better view of one wheel also showing the only terrible bit i can find on the van http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss195/austinmaxi555/Custom%20vans/CameraZOOM-20130213123225649_zps29faf900.jpg a before and after of the new dash trimhttp://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss195/austinmaxi555/Custom%20vans/CameraZOOM-20130213123308480_zpsf1ae388c.jpghttp://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss195/austinmaxi555/Custom%20vans/CameraZOOM-20130213130906411_zpse2663b73.jpg does anyone know whats best to remove a thin coating of mildew from the dash i have scrubbed it twice with sugar soap but it comes back within hours?? all hints gratefully recieved or do i need a new dash? Renegaderebel
Hey Martin. Just saw your thread, being a seventies Van-Man myself I'm gonna keep up with this one. Got a Mk 6 too that's going to be used as a Van and as a Camper and I've started kitting out the back. It's still waiting to be carpeted but as the weather gets better that will be done soon too I hope. You can find mine here: Renegade Van I've also got a '76 Bedford Van already customised in steel, 13'' top chop and all doors converted to gullwing doors (front doors shortened as well). It's registered as a V 8 so it will get a 7 litre V 8 Turbo from a Turbo Trans Am. For the time being it's resting though, 'till I have the time and money to finish it. http://escort.renegadecountry.nl/pics/howtos/bedford01.jpg http://escort.renegadecountry.nl/pics/howtos/bedford02.jpg Keep on Truckin' and greetings from Holland!
