Zetec conversion

Hi only just registered and wondered if anyone could help.

Over the last couple of months I have carried out a 1.8 130ps zetec conversion on a mk4 escort. The doner car was a 1994 si convertable escort. I have transfered over the engine, injection, ecu and engine loom. The mk5b had external pats and after an unsuccesful attempt at wiring this in I am trying to bypass it now. I have read on here posts that say I only need to live 1 wire on the ecu to do this but I don't know which wire? Does anyone know the pin number that needs to be lived?

I am getting to the point that I think the ecu is knackered as all it does is turn over. I have no spark and no fuel. I am hoping this 1 wire will have it running. It was running fine when removed from the m reg mk5b about 4 months ago.

Cheers Phil

I would be hesitant to spend money on having the ecu checked when I have read about a wire that needs connecting to bypass the pats. I did try to wire the pats in but the led was just on constantly. Weather the key was by the transponder or not. The ecu has been stored in a dry place since being removed from the fully working mk5.

I have 12v at the injectors but the earth seems to come from the ecu to complete the circuit which is not happening. I also have 12v at th coil but no spark.

My fuel pump works fine as I have wired that in on it own circuit. I think this bypass wire I have read about could be the answer.

Other than that another loom and ecu off a non pats car but finding one of those ain't easy.

Here is what I have compared to that link.

I have not moved any pins about and this is how they were when it was running in the mk5 when the external pats was connected/working.

Remove the pats wires from 39 and 22 (if applicable). Tape these up securely and then tape them to the loom, out of the way. Their metal contacts must not touch each other. 39 is an injector and 22 goes to my fuel pump relay

Remove the air con wire (35) and tape it out the way as a temporary measure.

Remove the fuel pump wire (53) and re-fit in hole 22. 53 is empty and 22 goes to my fuel pump relay that is a seperate circuit and the pump works

Now the injectors

Inj. 1 - hole 15, remove and refit to hole 51 51 is already an injector

Inj. 2 - hole 12, remove and refit to hole 52 52 is already an injector

Inj. 3 - hole 54, remove and refit to hole 39 39 is already an injector

Inj. 4 - hole 42, remove and refit to hole 35 35 is already an injector

Remove the octane adjust wire (29) and refit to hole 42. 29 is empty and 42 goes to a plug in the pass side of the engine bay that is factory bridged to earth

Remove the starter inhibit relay earth (32) and this needs to be connected to a new suitable earth. Look inside the A-pillar and you should find one easily enough. If you don't do this, the starter will not work! 32 is empty? Do I need to put a pin in here and earth it? However my starter motor works as the mk4 loom is wired to it

Untape your aircon wire which you have already removed and re-fit to hole 54 54 is unconnected? Should it go to something?

The external pats was connected to the ecu loom via a plug containing 3 wires about 3 inches away from the main ecu plug. 1 of the wires goes to an unconnected plug in the engine bay that has 1 other wire going to it that is earth, it is not bridged out and has a ford blank inserted to the plug so was not used before. The other 2 wires were factory soldered/connected to the crank sensor wires which are pins 55 and 56. The wire still goes to the crank sensor as well as the pats. There were no other wires connecting the pats to the ecu but the pats had another plug behind the dash clocks with 6 wires in it that connected to various earths powers and the led in the clock.
