mrrecovery
hi guys, few months ago i bought a non running escort gti turbo you might remember from a few years back. Brief is got it running and legal again and now rebuilding it up to a better faster spec. now rear discs, i can only seem to find mk5 rs2k rear beams that have no abs sensors so what can i use instead as i want to keep my abs, whats needed etc.. im going to need stronger lower arms as im looking at 300+ bhp with the new spec and dont think the standard items will last long so what are the options here? i do plan on using it for trackdays so would coilovers be a good recommendation? it currently has konis on her. escort cossie rims on a mk6, do they ruin the ride as much as on the mk5? cheers in advance people
scottybo
use st170 rear discs. u can modify them so abs still works if you still want it
bongo
You can get the focus hubs machined to fit the abs ring. Cossie rims although look good, apparently they re awful for the ride and mess up the handling. A few people use royal mail van arms,a few use compbrake adjustable some use polybushed. Not sure on suspension but i think the konis would be better than coilovers, with a decent spring.
dalelc16
I have both st170 rear discs and cossy wheels.I do have 205 tyre's aswel and lowered they did rub abit put you can sort that by grinding the lip in the arches. they will not rub if you put 195 on also I did have 215 40 17 alloys on before and the handling hasnt changed you do get a better feel of the road with cossys on. mrrecovery
thanks for the info guys, i take it i have to lose the abs completely if i dont machine the hubs to accept the abs, surely the focus has abs so cant the original systems be utilised somehow? demented
Focus ABS system has a different pick up.So the Focus magnetic ABS rings on the hub must be swapped with the toothed ABS ring from the Escort. If the car is fitted as standard with a 4 wheel ABS system, it must be operating as I intended to pass current MOT test, otherwise completely removed. All and more explained here, but will have to join the forum to view it. http://rs2000-16v.com/forum/showthread.php...RS2000-ABS-Ring
scottybo
i have never had a car with abs so it doesnt worry me about losibg it lol
demented
To lose ABS, current MOT test rules state entire system must be totally removed otherwise ABS must operate has originally intended. ABS can't be disabled. It's probably easier, to either fit rear discs to a Escort that never had ABS or fit Focus rear discs with ABS rather than remove the entire ABS.
