i have been offered a paddle clutch for super cheap, that was originally fitted to a mk6 gti. ive had a look at it and theres plenty of life left in it so im considering buying it

just wanted to ask (as ive never used one) if there are any drawbacks to using a paddle clutch over a regular one?

i would use it for my 130 build build with ib5 box and s2 lsd

If your car is used on the road - DON'T

Haha ok then. I think ill buy it anyway n flog it on
A paddle clutch is either engaged or not. There is no real smooth take up in drive.

You can slip a paddle clutch just fine..

It depends on the particular clutch in question, but really you don't want to use one unless you need to.

Ok guys thx for the advice! I believe its a 'panther' i only asked because it was offered to me for the grand sum of a tenner lol i bought it for the sake of it. Might just whack it on ebay
  • 2 weeks later...

My clutch slips fine but makes a noise doing it, if it had an uprated pressure plate it would become very on/off

There isn't much point fitting one unless you have found the limit of a standard clutch plate

What is the limit of the standard clutch?

The point it isn't able to handle the amount of power and it slips instead
It's not power a clutch doesn't like. It's torque.

Lol i know what that means!

i meant what is the limit for a standard clutch. How much power/torque cld a standard one take?
