Well, basically, I have 15" alloys on my car and they have 195/45/15 Hankook tires on them (the size i needed to get the wheels on my old car, a MK3 Fiesta). I can get 195/50/15 Goodyear Eagle F1 tires for £200, and wondered if it was worth it or not.

Yeah, I get a bit. and they're completely HOPELESS in the rain. I was told before I got the wheels that the Hankook tires fitted are useless and the people who told me weren't lying!

The Eagles seem to be good tires for both dry and wet weather. The only reason I want them is, as well as working near a Ford dealer, there's a Hi-Q garage right next door and they mainly deal with Goodyear tires (and they are always fitting tires to the police speed cars), so it'd be handy for me. Just drop the car off in the morning, get it back at night.

My other option was VRedestein Sportrac 2 tires. I've had them before on my old car and they were good. I also had Uniroyal Rallye tires which were good (on the Fiesta at least) but I'm told they're difficult to get hold of.

I'd like a tire that's gonna keep me glued to the road in all conditions. I know most of the roads near me and I like to drive... well, enthusiastically, shall we say, and I like to know I'm going into a corner and will come out the other end. Something I can't say of the Hankook tires I have already.

The way I see it, if the Goodyear Eagles are good enough for a speed car, they're definitely good enough for me.

Dude, you have a td escort, save your cash, and spend em on Kumho's, great all roudn rain and wheather tyre, and my last set where only 350 notes each from my local dealer for fitting and everything, i got 12000 miles outta the front pair.

That should be £50

I wouldn't bother with performance tyres on a family hatchback. I'd personally go for some AVONS ZV3's or ZZ1's. Excellent grip, wet or dry, bit too softa compound. mine lasted only 7000 miles, but i did really drive them hard. No need to be spending out £400 on tyres if you car is worth a little over that itself, its a silly investment. Harsh but unfortuately true.
