If I were getting a Focus I wouldn't go for a 1.6 though - it seemed even slower than my 1.6 Escort (although it is a Focus saloon, so there's some extra weight there). Simon. foxdie Posted August 28, 2004 Share Posted August 28, 2004 driven almost all the trims, bar the st170 and 1.4. (that even includes the RS) and i found them "nice". Which is about exciting as i describe. Comfy drive, not something you would consider modding or going for mental body kits. excellent drive to work, otherthan that.... its boring. A worthy replacement of the escort tho IMO in the family hatchback department, and being the best selling car in its class for the last five years must be saying something. Performance wise the independant suspension setup, means handling is accurate, and brakes responsive. Stay well clear of the 1.4 and be warned that the 1.6 will become boringly slow within a cpl of days. Best bet is the 2.0 or TDCi models, and if you can afford it the ST or RS trims. Although for its price the ST offers less performance and driveabilty than some of it rivals such as the TypeR and Cupra. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Waxmonkey Posted August 28, 2004 Share Posted August 28, 2004 dad's got un! drives really nice. very tall and with a small steering wheel, although depends what yer comparing it to, I drive a 13 yr old Golf so the differences are huge. against a fairly new Escort, I doubt there'd be much difference. AndyCanning Posted August 29, 2004 Share Posted August 29, 2004 just before i got my escort i was thinkin of buyin my bros focus and that was a 1.6 zetec, yes the are bigger and the clutch is a little odd at first but the car is good and very nice and easy to drive. i decieded to go for the scort cos of the color mainly. i had a race with the focus with mine and i beat it easily, was well shocked. my brother was so shcoked i bet him he sold it two months later and bought a peugeot 306 GTI6, he beats me now the sod!
