steve_sport_scort
im getting rid of my mk7si, and want to get a newer escort, but that means i cant have a SI/GTI, but is the suspenion and every thing the same, cos i love the handling on my si,and really dont wanna get something that wont corner the same, mainly cos id die after a few weeks, any info would be greatcheers guys
mutley
MK6?? its a mk6 you have and they dont go any higher than that.. unless u mean your gonna buy a focus?
Ex-Finesse
I've got a late mk6 (1998 finesse) so that won't have the Si suspension. But a strut brace and -30mm Eibach springs give it decent cornering! If you want good handling from an escort, I think aftermarket stuff is the only way to go to be honest. EDIT: So my advice is to buy a W-reg finesse (extra's inc. air con, cd player, leccy windows...) and put uprated springs on. mutley
I've got a late mk6 (1998 finesse) so that won't have the Si suspension. all escorts had the same suspension anyway.. Si and GTi still looked like on stilts

Si and GTi still looked like on stilts <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think GTi's are 10-15 lower than standard, but anything standard needs swapping imo! I've no idea if Si's have a harder spring rate or owt....... but plenty of people talk about it! I'd go for a 40mm lowering kit mate. It's a case of you get what you pay for..... a set of Koni Adjustables would cost around £350, but you'll get the best kit this side of coilovers!!! EDIT: There's no MK6. Some of the last mk6's ('99 / 2000 models) have some electrical differences, such as dash clocks, but no change bodywise. sortedford
no, we had it from new, n its always sat lower
Mike C
I've always thought the GTi's and limited editions like Cabarets etc being lower was all an urban myth, but i did once see a totally standard cabaret once, and it was defo noticably lower than a standard Escort, and no way wud it have been modded in any way i'm sure
mutley
i just think some just sit lower anyway.. you check with fords youll find the finis codes are all the same
steve_sport_scort
no, we had it from new, n its always sat lower <{POST_SNAPBACK}> as far as i know, the si and gti had stiffened suspension, but wasnt lowered, and the rs cars were lower and stiffer, how easy is it to change a spring set cos im looking at changing my si for a newer (probs x reg) finesse, but that'll be bog standard springs. and what is it about boy racers with novas corsas and saxos drivin like feckin crazy fools
Ex-Finesse
How mechanically minded are you? Some people will say it's very easy, others will say it's best to let a mechanic do it.
Blimey
mines a 1999 finesse (V) will i have better suspension ?
steve_sport_scort
mines a 1999 finesse (V) will i have better suspension ? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i think yours will have the basic, but ford did but all the si stuff on the last few finesse's they had the same alloys and abs and most of the extras, so it could be not sure, im fairly mechanically minded, fitted footwell lights, once touch opening and closing on the windows, fitted electric rear windows (that was a B*stard of a job), so decent boot lights so you can actually see in the boot at night, electric sunroof, took off my calipers and grinded them down and painted them up,so have alot of hands on experiance at a low level, have a haynes manual, but dont have much space and time to do the work, think a mechanic would be best, any idea on price of fitting?
