RobM
Hi one and all Just signed up a few minutes ago as I'm picking up my Escort GTi today and thought I'd better get to know my new family I've just bought a '98 R Escort GTi, 5 door, black and standard other than a Powerflow exhaust. I bought it after selling my Seat Leon Cupra R and my other half selling her Puma Millennium as we're raising money for a house purchase and need to save on the monthly costs. I've had Escorts before and have always been a Ford fan, so when looking for something under £2k that is nice to drive, fairly modern, not expensive to run, maintain and insure but still looks good... the GTi seemed an obvious choice But just as an intro to me, here is my more recent car history..... I don't have pics of my first few cars sadly... they were a Peugeot 205 Lacoste (1.4 twin carb), then a Mk5 Escort 1.6 3-door, then a Mk6 Escort 1.6 'Cabaret'. Then, this, my 2.0 ESP which I tarted around with and got to 160bhp and 160lbs/ft torque Then sold that for this, which I modified but only cosmetically + exhaust and filter Then I wanted something a bit quicker so bought this I had planned on modifying the Leon a bit more in terms of power, but when the house hunting idea came along (somewhat sooner than expected!) I quit that plan and put it up for sale. I'll post a picture of the GTi when I get it, but since it's pretty much standard, I'm sure you guys know what it looks like! So that's me folks Rob

RobM
welcome to evo mate quite a step down from a seat leon to a gti lol You could see it that way... or, I've stepped up from a Seat Leon to a GTi and a house I prefer to look at it that way. Plus, the GTi is hardly slumming it, is it
Matt86
Gti isnt slummingm must just seem very slow. Standard looking is the best
RobM
It's obviously slower... I've come from 220bhp to 112bhp (115ps)... nearly half. BUT... because the GTi is slower, and because it doesn't have that instant turbo-power-torque, I'm finding I'm quite happy just pottering along at fairly normal speeds. It's an unusual, yet nice sensation lol
