Registration Plate Transfers

Recommended Posts

Right, some of you might now I'm selling the Escort.

Anyway, I've currently got a private registration on it and need to transfer it to my new car. I've looked online, and apparently I need to fill in a V317 form to move it to from my Escort to my new car.

Clicky

So that seems straight forward enough, but how do I go about getting a registration plate back on the Escort? Because obviously once I've transferred it then it won't have a registration!

Thanks guys.

So do I have to fill in a different form for this or will they automatically process a new plate for my new car?

Yeah did mine a few month back you fill ina form send off mot certificates etc for both of them pay £80 !! then you get a new reg for the car I got the old reg back for mine

Did you pop into your local DVLA office or via post?

When i went into the local office they said it would have been quicker doing it through the post

Hmm...

You see my 'local' office is about an hour away from me. Do they sort it out straight away or would you recommend doing it via post?

My local office was a ferry ride away from me :censored:

When my parents first got the plate they had to go to the office, but when a plate is swapped over its quicker in the post :) sometimes its less than a week

I always send mine to the local office. They'll send back a cert for the Escort with your original plate (or an alternative if it's been allocated elsewhere) & your old mot. A couple of weeks at the back of that your log book usually returns with the new reg mark.

The only advantage to going into the office is you can put your private plate on there and then as long as you've contacted your insurance company. Not something I've ever messed around with in the middle of a car park.

Cheers.

Do I have to tell my insurance company or do the DVLA do that for me?
