because if the base coat has a "gloss" finish, once it dries properly, the surface will be to smooth for the clear to key too and cause flaking at a later date... so if you dont leave it too long, the gloss base will still have a slight tack to it.

if its normal matt finish base coat, it dont matter too much.

:D lol

if u leave it to long the laquer will not stick to the paint properly and the laquer will start to peel away

if u did it properly like paint then leave for hour or so then laquer and get orange peel make sure u flatten it out get rid of lil silcons and shits that land on the paint and polish it out with G3

make sure u have mop aswell

the way i do it is this;

make sure surface is smooth with various grades of wet and dry paper

use 1200-1500 to key surface for primer

2-3 coats of primer

leave overnight

rub down with 1200 grit paper

4-5 light coats of chosen colour

later that day, or next morning rub down with 2000 grit paper

3-4 coats of laquer

leave to dry somewhere indoors where theres no dust lol

I've never had a problem doing it this way, whether its metallic or not

alot people have different way to do it...

i think 2-3 coats primer aint much

i do bou 5-6 more to play with and spray black spray over lightly

and i never rub down before laquer

and primer ull be there allday with 1200

just 500 then wet 800 over....

i hope you'll be taking off the spoiler, handles, lights, mirrors, door locks etc all off before you even start spraying please matey seriously the cars looks very well prepped right now but taking off all the other bits etc will make a major difference. and you will get a good finish!
