da polisher

cheers fella  hopefully simonez can stick a bit more info on too :)

Hey dude!

ive been looking into getting this polisher to! ive got a silverline Rotary at the moment, its good, but fancy trying a DA,

the roatarys are good, but are for the professional detailers, damage can occur real easy, so defo start with a DA

ive heard good things about the DAS-6, its a perfect starter kit, personally i would go for the megs G220, used one of these and loved it! but its a far whack dearer, but again its down your personal preference mate, and most of all your budget.

as for polish, its down to you, all of the stuff do the same, but some work easier than others, i like menz / sonus / megs the lots, at the moment ive got Megs stuff, but is decent enough and i find it easy to work with :)

the wash / clay / polish / wax procedure i do most the time is this:

Spray Down

Snow Foamed with ph neutral and a drop of duragloss 901

APC all shuts / gaps etc

Cleaned wheels / arches (bilberry / Superdegreaser / APC)

rinsed down

Washed with Duragloss 901 via the 2 Bucket method

rinsed down

Clayed with Megs Quick clay kit (Last touch was used as lube)

rinsed down

Washed with duragloss 901 via the 2BM

Rinsed with the hose

Dried with Miracle drying towel and Last touch as drying aid

Dried all door shuts / doors with a microfibre

SRP`d with Autoglym SRP (2 coats of this)

EGP with Autoglym Extra gloss protection, left to haze for about an hour

went around removing any excess in the doors / gaps etc

Dressed tyres / trim

Hoovered and cleaned inside the cabin

Cleaned the engine bay With APC / Superdegreaser

Polished exhaust

Waxed paintwork with Megs #16 Paste wax

thats without the Machine polishing in it, so after the claying of the car, and drying it off, youd polish it with the DA

definatly learn how to prep the paintwork before hand, you need it as smooth as possible and contaminent free.

give it a go mate! easy enough :D

thanks all

simonez - thats a bit hardcore even for me! how long does it take you to do all that?!!??! :O

i've been wanting an excuse to buy this  so could i get this clay to go with it or is there one that you guys would recommend? :)

i did look at the megs da but thought i'd get the das6 as it looked a better deal and i'm only doing it to an old escort at the end of the day - just dipping my toe in the water to start with - buftyness hasnt kicked in to concourse level just yet! :D

so after washing (with megs gold class), and claying (with possibly the links above)... what products are next?

Born Slippy is nice, I use it with my Megs or Dodo Juice Supernatural clay. Im not a massive fan of poly clay's, I prefer the proper stuff, like the megs ones.

You should be thinking about:

Wash - Megs gold class

Clay - Megs quik clay with quick detailer or Born Slippy

Wash again

Dry - get a nice microfibre drying towel, they are a world away from standard MF cloths and the old chamois

Polish - to improve depth and reflection, use a finishing pad with either Menzerna FF106 or PO85RD or even Megs Speed glaze #80

After polishing, Im a fan of using a pre wax cleanser like Dodo Juice Lime Prime Lite, it isnt always necessary.

Final stage is protection. There are lots of different waxes and sealants out there, for varying amounts of money. It depends on what you want to do, there are wipe on wipe away products like Dodo Juice Red Mist that are polymer sealants, or there are waxes, that need to be left on to cure before buffing off. A combination of the two works wonders for durability. When I detailed Neil's yellow fiesta at Ford Fair, I got a layer of Red Mist down before using Dodo Juice's Supernatural wax, a combination that can give over 6 months protection with the right washing technique. Neil even commented in the mag how easy it has been to clean the Fiesta since.

i did that on my subaru the day before i sold it, took around 4-5 hours of hardcore cleaning, but it sold to the first person! so was so worth it, and it went at the asking price :)

thread on DW about it here: http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/show...ad.php?t=122919

that was the result without machine polishing it, all by hand, yer its covering up the swirls, but its the cheapest and a great option to those on a budget :)

machine polsihing is the Real "Detailing" aswell as going the extra mile, anybody can wash/clay/polish/wax a car :)

as for clay, i use the megs quick clay kit: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detailing-cl...-/prod_226.html

that is great for beginners, and the results speak for themselves! i use this most the time, you can get different grades of clay, but stick to the starter kit, you cant go wrong at all.

as for lube, in the clay kit you will get a bottle of detailing spray, this is good stuff, and works wonders, once ive used that i use Megs last touch, which is great for everything!

id go for the DAS-6 mate! give it a blast, im going to invest in one also at a later date, when the weather picks up! ive just picked up a 1999 golf gti turbo, with some serious swirls / fade on it so cant wait to get my hands on it properly!

Menz 106 is an amazing polish, its my go-to finishing polish.

You should have a look on detailing world, there are guides on how to use the machine, I found it really helpful when I started using my rotary, there are DA guides too.

I will look forward to seeing the results

here is the link for the DA guide, there is alot of info in there, most of it you will find to be relevant, some not so, its definitley useful.

  • 4 weeks later...

i was a bit worried about the DA so had it on 1k at first  then went to 3k when i was a bit more used to it, dead easy to use :thumb: and it got rid of a couple of small marks that polishing by hand never removed :) i used the menz final finish on a sonus sfx2 pad

no idea still how you manage to do all your detail in a day! took me about 5 1/2 hours to wash the car x2, clay it, use the DA then remove by hand :O
