My browser just crashed after writing out a decent introduction damnit!

Basically im here to introduce myself and my car, My names Scott, im 22 and i own a 1998 Escort GTI

I have always loved ford escorts, i had one as my first car a 1.6 finesse! but admitadly i only bought this one as a run around for work but have fell in love with it! just wish it was a bit quicker ... :)

To start with though im looking to restore it as its a bit tatty in general, faded paintwork, cracked bumpers and scratches and rust!! came here looking for advice on mods and restoration as you are all the escort experts!! :)

anyway here she is, only one picture at the moment ill get some more tomorrow me thinks!!

Think that picture is quite generous hehe the rear bumper is annihilated, its got a big crack/hole where the last owner reversed into something and various other scratches and scuffs and now my sister decided to reverse into it it has another scratch down it lol :nutter: to be honest i think someone has bodge painted the bumpers so itll need redoing anyway, do you think its worth fiberglass filling the crack, sanding it down andrepainting it? just annoying because the panels dont quite match in colour, as you can imagine being red! :P

might be worth swapping bumpers for non broken ones in the right colour. repairing cracked bumpers is an arse ache. did it on my old mondeo when i dozely reversed into a drain pipe and the bracket that was round it punched a hole straight into the n/s corner of back bumper. took about a week of filling and sanding to get it right as well as the small crack that was already there but i could hardly ignore since i was going to end up painting whole thing anyway (blending not a strong point)

In terms of mods i vote for keep it simple. clear side reps and maybe 16" wheels to fill the arches bit more, slight drop if you want and a nice back box.

Hmm I did think of that for the bumpers but couldn't find any that weren't already damaged, maybe a scrappy Is the best bet!

Agreed on the mods, less is definately more I want to make it look nice and then make it go nice aswell ;)

patience is a virtue. took me over a month to find a good bonnet and bumper for my current mondeo and ended up buying a whole car

if i ever get another escort its definately going to be simple mods. i went OTT on the ghia x and i think it ruined it slightly by the end

Ahh okay that makes sense I'll stay patient then think in going to replace the front one aswell as it's a bit tatty and looks bodged I just want it to all match and be nice and shiny :D

Yeah it's definately not about going over the top! I might end

Up dropping the 2.0 zetec in as apparently is so much better to tune though I've been eyeing up rs2000's so not sure it'll be worth it!
