Depends what you consider as 'best'. Easiest? Possibly. But then again, bolting on a purpose-built set of AP's is also 'easy'.

Cheapest, best value for money? Sure, the ST170 front setup is good. I wouldn't do the rears though, unless you intend to get new rear wheels with a correcting offset on it (alternatively suffer the handling hit).

ST170 front setup with Ferodo DS2500 pads is pretty awesome. Even better with a larger master cylinder.

right mate i have the setup on my car both front and back

firstly for the front

you will need

focus st170 discs

mk3 mondeo calipers adn pad carriers

mk1 mondeo brake hoses

and you will need to drill the holes in the hub out to 11.5 mm as the mondeo bolts are bigger

for the rear

you will need

full focus rear hub setup (this bolts off from the axle )

focus brake hoses as the escort ones will screw into them

or puma braided hoses

focus handbrake cable you can use escort one but you will have to have some adaptor plates made up

if your car has abs then you will have to have the hubs machined and drilled to fit the escort abs ring and sensor as focus is different

and last but not least the minimum wheel size you will need is 16"

Generally yes, but as I found out they'll JUST fit under some 15" - like these for example - http://www.bildon.com/catalog/Admin/photos/large/RALLY1.jpg

Or these -

So you don't have to increase wheel size and loose power, just to find some very good ones. ;)

very true there Stu my bro runs that set up!

What master cylinder can you "up grade" to on a escort?

Not sure. Various will fit, whether or not they're an upgrade or not is another matter. I've not done the test.

Once upon a time, I looked at fitting an ST220 one but deemed it too much hassle so binned the idea.
