Engine oil

As I'm off work soon I want to service my escort, my query is which oil would be best to use at the moment it has castrol magnatec 10/40 in it, would it be worth using this again or is there a better oil for the same price.

Ford recommend 5w30.

if you have a zetec engine it should be 5w30 i would get it from ford

i put 10/40 in the focus the past 2 services as i found it was eating the recommended oil na few people said i was be ff changing grade. that said, the engine must be worn to eat the oil like it was but since changing grade it has been great

Yes it's a 1.6 zetec, thanks for the advice and help guys appreciate that, I'll order it from ford :-)))))))

Im not 100% sure but didnt using grades such as 10/40 cause eventual sticking valves on Zetecs?

I was under the impression that it was the older zetecs that suffered with sticky valves

It was the very first engines that did, either way i'm not sure why anyone would want to go from a 5w to a 10w in this country. All it'll do is make lubrication worse when cold.

I think the early handbooks say 10/40 - late handbooks say 5/30. There's no major difference in the engine though - as said, Ford realised that 10/40 caused valve stick and changed the specified oil.
