just a thought... but could this be somthing to do with the ecu/brain or whatever other names they give it?

when i disconnected the battery the time before last, it over-reved when pulling away the same, BUT also over-reved when i pushed the clutch down and it went away by itself.

then the very last time i disconnected the battery (to put a new one on fairly recently - before xmas) it done it again and the person who done the battery said its somthing to do with the ecu needs re-setting and they disconted the fan after driving it in a certain way and it went back to normal after he done it?

yes disconecting the battery will reset the ecu but a few miles of driving should correct, it dont think this is your problem your symptoms describe exactly a slipping clutch :thumb:

"I haven't noticed any on the tarmac" This is reffering to a leak.

no , you said "Right, you say you can't see any leaks" - i answered "no i didnt" as i havent looked for any leaks so cant say i have one or havent.

Why don't you stop trying to pick holes in everything and have a sensible conversation about the problem at hand, i'm trying to help you out, yes we've exchanged words, now stop sulking and lets move on.

its not a case of picking holes its a case of you trying to twist my answers and posts!

I did not say "I cant see any leaks" - if i have then please point out the post that i said it in.

I'm being as accurate as i can (to stop any further confusion as some people may get confused) - you have interpreted this as sulking!

Look i'm not being funny (dont take it the wrong way) but you need to read my posts more closely.............so if i havent noticed any oil on the tarmac (which means there could or could not be a leak as im not sure) AND havent checked for a leak, and then you ask "Right, you say you can't see any leaks" and i say "yes".... then i would be inaccurrate wouldnt I.

I'm not trying to 'twist' your posts. When someone says they haven't noticed any, generally, there isn't one, or very very little, anyone with the gift of sight notices that there car is leaking because there is a F'kin massive puddle under it (exaggeration) and if you do as you say with your regular checks with brakes, then you would definitely see it if you check brakes the correct way by jacking it up and having the wheel off. No-one looks for leaks unless they notice important fluids missing, like you said when you checked your oil it needed topping up then you would definitely, definitely, look for leaks, unless your stupid?

Yes you are - i did not say "I cant see any leaks" and you said i did...if its not 'twisting' then what would you call it?

I have asked you to point out were i said "I cant see any leaks" in any of my posts and you have failed to, thats because you are trying to put words in my mouth that i did not say.

There is a big difference between 'not noticing' something and 'checking for definate'...now if i looked for leaks then i'd be checking for definate and would be able to give you a definate answer...BUT as I havent checked for definate and if i havent noticed something then i havent checked for sure and would not be able to give you a difinate answer.... but you are trying to force me to lie and agree with you about a sentence that you made up!

And just to clarify i specifically mentioned 'tarmac' as i dont park the car on the pavement. If i did i would have 'noticed' it MORE as oil shows up better on an almost white paving slab.('notice' still doesnt mean i have checked for definate).

Now as you should know tarmac is black in colour and so is oil... so it is a lot harder to notice. The car is parked on tarmac, I am not the only driver and also do not use it that much so there is even more reason not to notice it.

So to answer your question ""Right, you say you can't see any leaks" you will notice I have not answered it as I havent checked for any leaks...or would you like me to go along with your pretend sentence and lie to you?

Are you going to just argue with him or are you going to acknowledge anyone elses posts. If you would post your symptoms clearly it would help us to assist as this stinks to me as an ICV issue if you had replied to my first post it would narrow it down substantially. Edited by JoeyMk6

Sorry Joey - that was a bit inconsiderate of me and i apologise - thanks for trying to help.

When i dip the clutch it doesnt over-rev...it sounds as though its normal (i cant be sure) but in fact (may sound silly) it could under-rev as when I drove it last week it died twice at different juntions and it wasnt me stalling it! LOL

I would definately suggest its a faulty ICV as I have had many little things like this with a few escorts like revs building up high when the clutch is down and cutting out when the revs drop or even feeling like its driving itself. Either a good clean or a replacement should cure it

you know what - i think you may have hit the nail on the head.

When you say "feeling like its driving itself" has this happened to you whilst the clutch is dipped? as it has (not lately though) happened to me....it feels like you are being pulled forward when you shouldnt be???

Can't say Ive had that or see how it's possible lol but I would deffo try the ICV first before anything as its the most common fault on them engine wise

When I approached a junction and dipped the cluth then brake it felt like the car was still going and not in a way like the brakes were failing...if you know what I mean? but as I say it hasnt done that in a while?

Right, I shall get the clutch checked tommorow.... if its ok - then I shall be buying a new control valve and water temp sensor just to make sure/be on the safe side.

thanks Joey.

I acknowledege that i have jumped the gun, that's what i call it, jumping to conclusion, not twisting, when you said i haven't noticed any on the tarmac, that says to me that you have had a look and can't see one. So, instead of being a idiot about it you could of just said "Well i haven't really had a look" then i would of said "Well go have a look" wouldn't that of been a whole lot easier?
