bhp soothes me
Does the plastic blacktop rocker cover fit the silvertop engine.
stoo2000
Yes it does, you just need longer bolts. http://testarea.silvesterhost.co.uk/orion/engine.jpg

stevenfod1
the only problem wiv it is that it needs trimming down a little so that the pulley cover bolts on properly
Ahmotorsport
Why would you want too? My experience with blacktop covers is oil pissing down the plug hole. Plastic + Heat = Bad news. Whats more, it can't be cured, only temporarily with a new gasket and RTV. Can always paint a Silvertop to make it look like a Blacktop?

Agreed, Ford only made them as they were cheaper to produce, early black top covers are infact metal but not up to the quality of a silver top. Even with the silver top covers you can see cost cutting through the years as the old DOHC version is more dense and weighes more.
Naylor2006
So why when people talk about doing engine conversions into a mk5-6 they say the blacktop is better? Although it is harder to fit!
Stu
So why when people talk about doing engine conversions into a mk5-6 they say the blacktop is better? Although it is harder to fit! The black top is a superior engine for many reasons. Reasons which in my opinion are not sufficient enough to choose one over a silver top for Escort installation. You could be thinking of the 1.6 Zetec SE fitted into the Focus and Fiesta.
