jghs83
As the title says How legal is it to display the front numberplate in the top of the windscreen behind the passenger sun visor? Both the fender and the 150 passed passed the mot with it in the windscreen but this was a few years ago. Ive also noticed a lot of discos and fenders with the same. Input appreciated. Craig855S
Apparently it has to be fixed to the car (in a permenant way) at a point further forward than your front wheels. So fitted using screws (or in a mount that itself is screwed in) and placed on the bumper or leading edge of the bonnet only....plus, they look gay in the windscreen
shawdreamer
there can be no obstruction infront of the plate that might otherwise distort the ability to read it at distance. behind glass would mean glare reflection and reduction in reflectivity which means traffic, speed and handheld camera and laser guns will not return accurate readings.....meaning a rozzer will absolutely love you. also the angle of the plate will be wrong which means you might aswell paint a bullseye on your fod and have a "cops are cocks" sticker on your bumper. jghs83
The "cops are cocks" comment really made lol. But behind glass is a problem? Buses around here have there number plates behind glass/perspex. As said, a lot of landrover owners have them in the windscreen with no problems. scottg17
You are not supposed to have anything within the sweep of you wipers hence the legal position of your tax disc ECTA number plate at some point will sit within your wipers sweep if its on your windscreen so id say its illegal - even magic trees hanging off your mirror are technically illegal and you could potentially fail an MOT over itSaying that the chances are most coppers will turn a blind eye to it unless they are being a dick, I know people who do it with no issues, Vosa... now if they stop you on the other hand they are ruthless Mates dad got stopped in the lorry for having the satnav in the corner of his windscreen...you'll probably get a fine (they even carry chip and pin machines so you can pay there and then lol)
Danzetec
Fixing of front registration plates: vehicles registered on or after the relevant date6.—(1) This regulation applies to vehicles, other than works trucks, road rollers and agricultural machines, first registered on or after the relevant date.(2) Except as provided in paragraph (5), a registration plate must be fixed on the front of the vehicle in the manner required by paragraph (3).(3) This paragraph requires the plate to be fixed—(a)vertically or, where that is not reasonably practicable, in a position as close to the vertical as is reasonably practicable,(b)in such a position that in normal daylight the characters of the registration mark are easily distinguishable from every part of a relevant area having the diagonal length specified in paragraph (4).(4) The diagonal length of the relevant area is—(a)in the case of a mark having characters the width of which is at least 57 millimetres, 22 metres,(b)in the case of a mark having characters the width of which is 50 millimetres, 21.5 metres,©in the case of a mark having characters the width of which is 44 millimetres, 18 metres. Basically its down to interpretation but it can be covered by vertical (or near vertical) glass but anything other than that would/could reflect light, when viewed within the specified area, and obscure the plate IMO you would probably get pulled and it looks 5hit anyway
