Christ, don't even put a bristlenose in a 30L - you can easily see them to over 4 inches.

And for the record, plecs can grow quickly and no they shouldn't just die off after a few years, mine's over 10 years old.

Any plec will need fresh food, and that filter doesn't look like it could handle a plec and all the mess they make. Like I said earlier, try and get hold of a couple of otos.

Are they ramshorn snails or MTS? (google them and check the pics as comparison)

MTS come in handy in a sand substrate tank, I need to get some in my Trigon190 actually, last time I put 10 in hoping for them to colonise it they were taken out by my loach

I'm not entirely sure, they're tiny little buggers, they're stuck to the heater suckers noshing on the white algae. They look more like the MTS ones, but the shell is fatter.

I've added a small bristlenose pleco into the system for getting rid of the algae, if it does get too large, i'm thinking of getting a big tank for myself, so i'd just put it in that one.

A question for you also, with larger tanks, is it best to have two, smaller filters (one at each end) or just one large one in a corner? Thanks.

Ive found that no living creature can actually reduce the amount of algae in a tank, if you have so much algae in your tank you actually consider it a problem then you need to address the cause, not add fish/snails to try and get rid of it. Having bristlenoses because you want them/can house them is fine, but having them because you think they'll clean the tank is wrong imo because they wont.

Bongo is that plec an actual gibbiceps? I really want one as i think theyre gorgeous but my tanks too small at 190L

Solutions to algae problems are to keep nitrate and phosphate levels down, keep lighting timings down, and use fast growing plants to use up the nutrients in the water so the algae cant survive.

I dont have algae because I use remineralised RO water

Ahh okay, i best get another plant in there, which plant would you recommend?

The main reason for the bristlenose is because my little brother liked them and i think they're quite funky too. I didn't add any snails intentinally haha.

I saw one this morning, it was a ramhorn, but the others are the MTS type i think. They're growing quite fast.

They're supposedly territorial, but mine has never shown any aggression towards the bristlenose that got dumped on me;

And for scale, that's a Fluval 3+;

Also wanted to ask whats good to feed a bristlenose and how to prepare it, google has told me all sorts and i've tried peas but it doesn't seem interested. I tried peas with the neons and they wents bothered either. I defrosted them, de shelled them and chopped them up into small chunks for the tetras. The bristlenose i just defrosted, peeled and split them in two and popped them in and as i say, not interested, or do bristlenoses not tend to eat veg so much when they're young? He seems too focused on sucking the rocks and plant.

There is now about 8 snails in there lawl!

Try a chunk of courgette, perhaps half an inch long. My plecs go crazy for it, it's what they're sat on here;

They'll go through a block 2" long in a day or so.

Wash it under the tap, weigh it down with some lead plant weight and drop it in. Might take it a day or so (or probably a night) to figure out that its actually edible. They're not the brightest. Problem is, of course, you only have a diddy tank and so you can pollute it that much easier. If it's not interested after a couple of days, you'll have to take it back out and try with a new piece. And keep up with the syphoning - it'll make a LOT of poo.
