Ford Escort 1.6 Finesse

Okay, its about time I put mine up. I bought this on Halloween 2011 from and old gentleman. He was the second owner and he had owned it from when it was Two years old. The car came with full service history, loads of previous work undertaken and the body is immaculate. The car came with 45,000 miles on the clock and I purchased it for £1000. Always wanted an escort but other cars kept popping up so I set out to find one in near perfect condition this time. I had my heart set on it being silver and with the 7 spoke alloys.

On a sidenote, does anyone know what the significance of these alloy wheels on the Escort are because it seemed fairly hard to find an escort with these alloys. Also I see lots of escorts driving around but I've only seen one with the 7 spoke alloys?

Couple of bits and pieces I have planned for it, nothing major as I like the original look. Just things to freshen it up like colour coding, new plates and there's abit of rust on the rear arch. Going to have that done by a pro at some point? I would also like more power but from my reading on here the only way to do that is by an engine transplant; which I'm in two minds about.

Okay, here are the pics I took today enjoy! Also it needs a dam good clean!

Looks nice that. What plans have you got for it?

Nothings going to change till the summer as I'm no good with the cold!!! As soon as good weather comes I'm going to :

- Colour code the bump strips+handles

- Underseal everywhere underseal can possibly go with a probe.

- Get it serviced professionally as I want my 12 stamps!

- Looking at Gti or full leather interior (Need to see in the flesh thought to decide)

- Long way off yet but possibly a 2.0 converion as the 1.6 is so slow!

- Rear arches have got to be done (Should be this year)

I haven't had the car very long but I love it already, best decision I ever made. looking at taking it to France this year also!

Basically I had a Skoda Felicia for my first car; had it 4 years and loved it, took me all over England. Then I went to a modern polo and then a modern alfa. liked them but didn'nt love them. Anyway a woman crashed into my Alfa whilst it was parked and wrote it off. I've been bought up with Escorts all my life so there's abit of a nostalgic reason for always wanting one. Now I have one!

Sounds like its going to be a tidy little motor. Hope it all goes well for you.

Looking forward to watching this lovely base example take shape. Yeh JC's is a great model to take example from.

Keep the 2.0l conversion till youve sorted body, sus and brakes. Might wanna find a block soon as they seem to be getting rarer, well if you do wanna do it try and get an ECU now.

Anyways that's miles off, enjoy playing.

I gots full leather, I love it, got a few options for interior stuff.

Well I've had both interiors in my ghia x escort and have to say best was the gti one. more comfortable and supportive. The full leather ghia x stuff is not supportive or comfrtable for prolonged drives I found. I drove to manchester and back to get my full leathers in my gti seat and was fine but a journey to FITP was uncomfortable in the leathers.

Lovely looking base - couldnt find a good escort when I was looking for one for my missus so got her a rover which has reasoable power for a 1.6 - 109bhp stock which is 21 up on escort :D

Yeh, I was lucky to find this one so locally! Long drives will be important for me for work, so may settle on the GTI. Alot of the GTi seats I've found for sale seem to have alot of wear and tear I'm finding so may take abit of time to find the right set (At the right price). But as I say weather awful at the minute! So have plenty of time to make my mind up!

I di think it seemed to be riding a bit high myself...hmmm may wizz it round the mechanics in a few weeks see what he thinks.

Thought I'd make a start as the weather picked up after the flash flood incident. I'm glad I did because some of the nuts bolts etc. were a right pain to get off. For anyone who doesn't know what I'm doing have a scan through the link above; I'm changing the head gasket and clutch. At the moment I'm just removing as much as I can to improve my access as you can see the amount of space I'm working with Isn't fantastic! So here it is so far....

In the last pic does any one know how that air box is secured, there's one scre but underneath seems quite oddly fastened.

Forgot to add....Just incase anyones wondering why I've done what I did today and why it doesn' look like much!!! It's just because I've been waiting on my mate to give me my trolley and axel stands back! So thought I'd get some of the smaller jobs out of the whilst I have it parked up. Also im taking baby steps and going at a snails pace on purpose for my labling system etc. But I'll get there in the end! When I get the it off the ground in the next 2 days you'll see a far greater step in the right direction!

Cheers Stoo :thumb: I was wondering what the crack was with it. I'll get started on that tommorrow although it appearing to quite a handy tool storer at the moment
