etrebus
My money's on rear main crank seal. Yep and mine, thats why I asked how hard is it to remove the flywheel? Box out, clutch and flywheel off, old seal out and new fitted - is that what needs to be done?not to hard bolts will be tight you may have to get someone to hold the flywheel using a bolt screwed into the bellhousing and with a strong screwdriver use the bolt as a pivot point to hold the flywheel using the ring gear the flywheel will have to be torqued up again after . Mike-evans
Just had it up on the ramps....bad leak.... Annoying more than anything, as I only fittdd the 2.0l around 2 months ago.. Just been quoted £170 parts and labour to get it done, how does that sound? I am thinking about doing it myself, but do have afew questions; How hard is it to drop the gearbox whilst engine is still in the car?Rouhly how long has it taken people to drop the box?How hard is the crank seal to remove and new one to fit? sidrick
For £170 I'd pay someone to drop the box unless you have access to a ramp. Zero fun on your back.
Ahmotorsport
I do have to agree with Sid. The gearbox mounts on an Escort can be a right pig.

And its cold lying on the floor. I know this from putting the engine back in my RS last week.

Mike-evans
How do you mean "seal housing off" I thought the seal has to be pulled out of the casing, and a new on fitted in... I didnt think the seal was in a seperate housing of its own?
