Project OEM+

Alright so the decision has been made to keep my slow-ass 1.4 Escort. However, I desire a car that is tasteful to my preferences. Several modifications may not adhere to everybody's personal preference, but the beauty of vehicle modification, whether it be cars, bikes, or lawnmowers, is that every person is an individual, and has the ability to be unique in their own way, when expressing themselves in vehicle modifying. As such, if you don't like an idea that I have, or a change I have made to my car, doesn't really bother me.

Any modifications I make, may seem like a great idea at the time, but a few weeks later I may change my mind, I'm like that.

So lets get down to business.

And so it begins...

Being that I have little money right now I need to be incredibly sensible with the first purchases I make on the car. I don't REALLY want to be going out spending cash on parts just yet, when there's a few things that need doing that are important to the cars well-being, such as fixing rusted areas, and replacing worn parts such as control arm bushes and anything that will need doing for the MOT.

However, I had a heated debate with my debit card last night, and we agreed to disagree on a couple of things. First thing I got was some touch up paint. One was a pen brush, the other a Hycote rattle can. The touch-up pen is for some chipped paint on the body work, and a rusted area on the passenger side door. The spray can is for a future fix of the rear bumper, in which I damaged by reversing into a lamp-post (To be fair, the lamp-post walked behind me as I was reversing. Fairly ignorant to be honest), which will also involve some filler and possible plastic welding.

Next on the list was a pair of cheap blank mud-flaps, in which I planned to put ford logo stickers on, but for the life of me I can not find any Ford logo stickers. What is the internet coming too, where I can purchase a large penis shaped wooden bottle opener for £12.99 but I can't find somebody to print me 2 small(ish) ford logo stickers.

I wanted to get a pair of transformer emblem overlays from DMB Graphics, but a) I saw a batman one and b) I didn't have enough money in my account.

As it stands the car is very standard. State blue, steelies with plastic wheel trims, faggoty rear bumper and a non-fogged up front bumper.

ON THE LIST

I wanted a cossie splitter, but it appears nobody does the hockey sticks for under £150 EACH, so Fcuk that for a bag of money nuts. Will probably put an Astra splitter on or something.

I want GSi side skirts, but I'm waiting to find a cheap pair. Already got a pair of spats I'm watching on eBay, but that's debatable depending on what I'm doing with the exhaust.

Speaking of the exhaust, I'll either be getting a specifically designed silencer for the 1.4 CVH, or adapting a 1.6 middle section to fit an after-market Sportex silencer, in which case I'll have to cut a piece out of the rear bumper, and cover the old hole with the spats. If I can get the spats cheap enough I'll get them and if I don't use them I'll sell them on.

I'm either smoking the rear lights, or saving up for a pair of the cluster style sets with smoked back, and I'd love a pair of angel eye headlamps.

Obviously on the list at some point is a nice new set of alloys. I'm a sucker for white 5 spokes, I think they look awesome on blue or black cars, so I'm hoping to find a set similar to these...

This is the bit people might pull faces at... I'm trying to get hold of a set of side strip vinyls similar to what they have on the Fiesta ST, only saying "Escort" in nice old-school lettering.

And obvious extras such as a spoiler, bee-sting antenna, but I will NOT be going for tinted windows. I may spray the side strips and the door handles also :)

OEM+ to me is the Rs option kit I.e skirts, rear bumper, and spoiler and then adding things that you don't get on the escort. As for exhaust my magnex system has fitted to the 1.4 cat on mine fine so chopping exhaust to make fit shouldn't be an option.

good luck with the project

got some nice choices there, I do believe that keeping it as close to ford equipment would be better and doing some stuff that ford offers as option: 6 speed wipers, I'm sure ford do 5 spoke alloys somewhere, and the stripes, try demon graphics, I'm sure they will be able to sort you.

I will have a set of side skirts and spats ready for you in the new year, have one minor crack to sort out and then I'm gonna sand them down and prime them ready for selling, but a set of skirts and spats ready primed are here if you want them.

get the cossie bib off stoo, you can see the link in the 'for sale' page at the top i the fibersports price list.

If your going for a large bore exhaust stay away from the 1.6 mid section. was speakin to scottybo today and the mid section on my 1.6 is like a pea shooter, try find something bigger.

check ebay for the ford stickers, there's a million on there, but some people do ford logo mudflaps that you might like.

Have fun with the build dude, will enjoy watchin what happens

yeh i dont know about the cvh exhaust but on the small zetecs, the downpipe with the car on its something like a 2 inch bore, then the exhaust pipe suddenly turns into like a 1 inch. i myself wasnt aware it was such a poor system until i took it off lol

as previously said oem+ is sticking to ford parts mainly, the way i would describe oem+ would be to have someone who knows very little about cars look at it, and if they can tell somethings different but cant quite make out what it is, then mission accomplished!

OEM+ was described as mainly OEM parts that you would find on the higher spec model, PLUS a non-OEM performance exhaust and perhaps a set of alloys. There may be some varied description, but yes, pretty much going for the RS/GTi look, just with a sportex exhaust and those rims if I can find some cheap enough. The rear and front lights upgrade is at the very bottom of the list so it may not happen, at least not for a while.

those wheels are comp MO5's (my favorite wheels btw) you are NOT going to find them cheaply

to make the car look instantly cool while you gather your parts for the mods, take the hub caps off and spray the steels white, then drop the car like 60mm

i think that would look sick

I have to say, I'm not a fan of steelies what-so-ever. I'm in 2 minds about lowering. lowering kits are stupidly expensive.

u can pick up second hand lowering springs for about £30 dude, for my pi shocks and gmax springs i paid £80!

good bargains to be had man and mecha performance per pound u cant go wrong with new suspension!
