pete.... i use whatsapp? on my iphone 4s and its free for me???

also an anyone recommend a good obd reader etc for my iphone??

do you mean the actual interface unit or the software?

theres countless OBD2 interfaces available,

If your using a phone based app to connect to it then the easiest way is a standard OBD2 bluetooth version like the ELM327 which just plug directly into your motors Diag. socket and away it goes, then its just a case of turning on your phones bluetooth an connecting to it much as you do with any bluetooth device. BlueTooth -ebay clicky

If for some reason your not using bluetooth and prefere some other connection method there is also wireless and wired OBD readers, they however all do the basic same thing....read the data via your cars socket.

The wired version are generally what you use to connect a laptop to your motor, you'll often see these used in garages as the cheap, simple and a straight forward option. wired - ebay clicky

The wireless (wifi) version are a little more trickie in some senses, they basically function as a wireless hotspot but without internet connection obviously and you have to tell your phone/tablet/pc to AdHoc connect to the same network as the wifi interface, thats were thing can be a little more troublesome, though Iphones are generally set to allow adhoc networks straight out the box for some bizarre reason I still cant find an answer to, Android devices before 4.0 aernt automatically capable of it and have to be aftermarket rooted to allow the function to be activated (sounds complicated but if I can do it a chimp can). wireless - ebay clicky

basically I look at like this.

Wired - for pc/laptop, fastest data transfer speed and greater accessibility

bluetooth - for phones, probably the slowest transfer rate but still fast enough for phones and standard obd reading apps.

wireless - for tablets/pads, useful when your tab doesnt have BT like mine, speed is comparible to wired I think and range beats BT hands down.

I think WhatsApp is free or you can pay a little for a version with more features. Not sure what they are.

Not sure, app store shows 69p on my iphone?

Android Tuner

my latest "must absolutely have if you want your Android phone/tablet to keep working as well as it did when you first turned it on" App

basically it gives you complete access to all those annoying little corners of your devices noggin were those performance munching processes love to lurk, essentially giving you a great deal more control of how your device functions and behaves.

It replaces the jobs of numerous apps I was using including, task manager, battery saver and cpu tweak. has given both my tablets a fresh lease of life, plus Its included widgets give you the ability to monitor just about anything you choose too.

great little piece of software that I like so much I even paid out for the Pro version. :pancake:

even though it looks complicated If I can get my head round it any fecker can. :thumb:

the trick is to stick with what you know.

battery monitors, cpu tweaks, task manager, device manager etc etc are all familiar apps that can be figured out with a bit of time.

If you dont know what your doing Id stay clear of the "kernal tweaks" and the like (much as I do)

to a novice like me the options and facilities this one app offered up was totally overwhelming at first but after I flicked through it and dug a bit about in it it stopped seeming so daunting.

Its replaced a half dozen individual apps I had running on my tablets and phone and in doing so saved me a shitload of space and battery munching.

ps. unless you S3 is rooted the cpu tweaks wont work.

Just to update the ELM327 - At work we had a Jeep that none of our computers would talk to (Including the Fiat/Chysler/Dodge/Alfa/Lancia one) but this little £10 bluetooth jobby did the trick no problems.

had that with my sisters scirroco.... even after being told the garage/dealership couldnt find the faults with their own laptop jobbie.
