2001 Mk6 Escort van

Hi guys, joined here ages ago when i had an rs2000 but didnt really use the site much, however im just about to start on a project so i thought i would get some pics up!

Its a 2001 mk6 Escort 55 van, purchased for £175 through copart with a slight front end bump, general tattiness and with the interior smelling like saltwater fish, not the most inspiring project base im sure you will agree but the low mileage of 75000, the td lump under the bonnet and the power steering are all nice plus points in its favour! Also on first inspections it appears to be reasonably solid underneath and the sides are arrow straight.

My reason for buying it is that im just about to take over a bodyshop business and i thought it would make a good promotional tool, as well as being useful for lugging parts around, that being said i dont have any radical plans for it, I would love to convert it to rs2000 power but its just not viable for the work its going to do, besides, an rs2000 lump wouldnt run on finest crisp and dry would it ;)

Plans are -

Strip bodywork, Repair front end (maybe replace with mk5 rs2000 parts), complete any welding needed, Respray in ford frozen white

mK6 RS2000 Recaros, si doorcards, elect windows / mirrors / central locking

Sensible ice

maybe reboard the back

compomotive mo wheels

maybe lower - as said above, it will be a working van first and foremost!

anything else that comes to me!

Enough talk, you want pictures!

As bought - Filthy dirty, odd sized tyres, front end bump, 4 random spare wheels in the back, 3 sets of seat covers and 3 sets of mats in the cab, ironic that the previous owner seemed to want to keep it clean with multiple seat covers and mats yet it doesnt appear that its ever been cleaned or hoovered!

I suspect it was somebodys fishing van - Would explain the smell!

The only work i have managed today is to clean it to make it a bit more pleasant to work on

Passenger seat - I really dont want to know what this is

I'm sure with Micks track record he'll get you to the promised land,as for the pilgrims any time spent in the top half of league 2 is a bonus after the last 2 seasons. Sorry mr-ixolite for hijacking your thread with footie talk  tomsy

haha, no problem guys

Not had chance to do any work yet and probably wont until end of oct, however i have bought a donor escort estate tdi which i will rob the loom, electric windows, central locking, clocks etc out of and probably a load of other bits too

anyone know what the differences are between the turbo diesel non intercooled engines and the intercooled ones?, i know the power output is different, is it just a case of swapping over the intercooler and associated pipework and upping the boost and fuel or would i be best swapping the whole lump from the estate?

Not sure if there are differences in the engine block, but I've swapped over the intercooled manifold, turbo etc to my non intercooled engine. Was a few years ago.

I haven't upped the boost / fueling yet either, but im sure it would help.

Wow, been so long since i started this and the vans done nothing but sit in the corner of the new unit (after being used to help move everything, it was only round the corner on the same farm), been too busy with work and setting up the new place that i havent had time to think about it, soon to change as i should have some dead time over christmas

One development is the purchase of this 1996 rs2000,

bought site unseen off copart, I took a chance on it to use as a daily, unfortunately after collecting it yesterday, despite looking good from the top its absolutely hanging underneath, chassis rails, boot floor, main floors, sills are all in the advanced stages of rotting away - But the engine and running gear are all good.... I think you know where this is going, yes, my "sensible diesel" van plans are about to go for a burton!

good plan, u then got some wheels brakes, bonnet and a bumper u could use on the van, not to mention the interior pieces like the seats and the steering wheel

u could probs make that exhaust fit as well with a few mods!

ill keep an eye on this one

Thats the plan (although i did also buy a finesse estate td just after the van to donate elec windows etc!) strip the van to a shell, do the bodywork and then strip the rs bit by bit building the van up as i go, out of the 3 i should end up with a decent van!
