scottybo
Wouldnt it be easier to put a zetec in like 16 18 or 2.0 Added fuel costs mounts gearbox looms uprated brakes driveshafts and the misses its never easy fuel would be better on a zetec. engine mounts are readily available. gearbox and driveshafts are exactly the same. brakes are exactly the same. although i would suggest uprating them anyway the regular escort ones are turd its the maf. u already told us it runs better when its not plugged in. isnt this like the most common escort problem in history?? get down a scrappy n pick up a maf. or try and burrow one. remembering the fiesta mk3.5 also had the pte (cvh) engine so shouldnt be too hard to find

Its been a month since now. I was told that disconecting the maf puts the car into safe mode dont know if that means limp mode but it drives fine lol Ordered a Maf now £62.50 for a new Hella one probably need a Lambda and Cat as bought a cheap cat from eurocarparts last year and been told they dont last (wouldnt imagine it will if had water through it)

dancool27
Sorry, sucked water up? What's this about? About a month ago in a storm 2am i was on an unlit road and drove straight into deep water covering the road went upto headlights came in car over my feet, hydrolocking the car the next day the plugs were removed the water came out the cylinders and was restarted with water coming out of the exhaust. Then replaced the spark plugs againg and the maf and leads and now is running fine apart from the really small hunting and emmisions

sidrick
It could be a million things. I'd start with a compression test before buying parts.

sidrick
I think the first thing to do would be to buy some uprated headlight bulbs.
demented
Sorry to keep banging on about this at every opportunity but have you tried replacing the PCV valve. On a 1.8 Zetec, I had revs hanging high when coming to a stop and then reving up and down by its self, I went through all the possible know causes but to no avail, until I somehow discovered it was the PCV valve. I swapped the PCV valve from a spare Escort and by doing so, it has cured the problem. Apparently the PCV valve on the Zetec should be replaced, either every 10 or 30 thousand miles, can't remember which but it's often overlooked, so, although your car is a 1.4cvh, I assume the service recommendation for the PCV valve will be the same. shawdreamer
I mention lamda sensor because he has an emissions problem, in my experience of my escort, when it had emission issues it was a faulty MAF and lamda sensor Id have to agree with John on the Lambda point, My Si was hunting all over the place on idle and had a short pause on acceleration, it near sent me loopy after testing all the likely's and methodically working my way through the solutions without any notable results. was close to getting my hammer to "fix it" when I simply unplugged the O2 sensor and presto, engine purred like a kitten and acceleration hesitation vanished, replaced the Lambda entirely a week or so later and everything was peachy. I think the first thing to do would be to buy some uprated headlight bulbs. and a emergency floatation device
dancool27
Well unfortunately it looks like she will be sold off which is sad as the body is solid just some surface rust coming through on arches and a bit under the boot rubber
