mikes-fat-arsed-estate
The latest addition (the cabby) 1.8 zetec seems to pull nicely from low down as soon as it hits 3k it seems to just pause for a few seconds almost like it doesn't want to be pushed any further obviously it will if i keep going but sluggishly , my 1.8 tdi pulls better is this just a case of me expecting more from the car or is there possibly a sensor gone bad? so far I've tested the maf ( car stalls if unplugged)Cleaned the throttle body , now going to reset the ecu & test later tonight so see if any improvements I've just give the car a service oil - filter , fuel filter , full tank of shell v power ect the ones I've watched on YouTube seem to pull nice & consitant through out the rev range
shawdreamer
unplug your lambda (the plugs above the radiator under the cross-member/slam panel). if the pause vanishes then you need a new lambda/o2 sensor. the car will run fine with it unplugged for the short term though the ecu will over-fuel the engine and itll run rich till a new sensor is in (iirc)
scottybo
sounds like a maf or lambda as shaw said. my si used to do this all the time. the clip for the maf sensor was broke and kept coming unplugged

mikes-fat-arsed-estate
cheers peewee took the car out tonight it seemed to be a little better then normal unpluging the lamba sensor didnt make a difference how ever im starting to consider it may be just me expecting to much from it. but doesnt have alot of over taking power. is this normal >? if so mines no where near that haha
demented
Cat blocked or collapsed, if not the O2 sensor, it need a new cat. I've got a 3 door 1.8 Si and a 5 door GTI, both standard engines and there's more than enough overtaking power, certainly not sluggish. I've also got a 96 Escort Rs2000 with performance cams and superchip, performance of which can not be compared to that of the 1.8. I say the YouTube footage is of modded Escort, either Rs2000 or a 2L Zetec.
mikes-fat-arsed-estate
my other daily ride which is now being stored in a friends warehouse is a mapped vw passat tdi currently running 180bhp maybe im just feeling the lack of 80 horses haha & all that low end torque the diesel delivers , thanks for your opinion on the youtube video that would explain it. demented
I've never driven a Passset TDI, especially one that has been chipped, so can't compare but I certainly wouldn't describe 1.8 Zetec Escort as sluggish, both mine pull great and are on par with vast majority of newer cars. If one fiited, I believe the Cat is blocked or collapsed. I had similar a few years ago, Escort would run and drive perfectly around town but lacked oomph. On motorway would cruise all day at 60 & 70mp but couldn't get above that. Once cat temporarily removed, oomph returned and motorway driving back to normal.
