ploppy
sound like a good deal.on my mk5b, i had head problems so i took the head off and gave it to speacialised engines to sort it. while they were rebuilding the head, i asked them if i could tune the engine. in a word they said no. the reason is the valves are too small, if they are replaced the ports need to be bigger to increase gas flow to get the effect of bigger valves. then the throttle body and maf sensor is too small, then the injectors are two small, then the ecu wont cope. the list goes on. oh, the cams also aint much use.hate to say it mate, but i was in the same position as u, get a nu car. the amount my insurance would have gone up by by putting in a 1.8 engine was more than buying a mk6 1.8 si and insuring that. i went for the cheaper option and got a better car. Ex-Finesse
Why on earth would you chuck more money at the car if you're going to sell it?? I never think about selling mine, but if I was, I certainly wouldn't be looking at engine work - that's a mod which you will get least return on. Don't bother imo mate - a car is never finished! If you do the engine, you still have the interior to do, and vice versa!
j4ffa
true true im looking to have the car another 2 years the outsides gettin there sortin inside out so far i want to play under engine bay its been de-catted so gives more power just want sumat else if u know wat i mean
Timmy C
I think you would be happy with a 2L conversion. Just ignore anything else your mates say about engines, they seem to have no idea at all You will never get 136 bhp out of your 1.6 for less than the cost of dropping in even a brand spanking new 2.0L zetec. And whatever you do to your 1.6 its just gona make it really unreliable. The weight difference wont matter, its not much at all for all that extra bhp. You will easily cut 2 seconds off your 0-60 and see and extra 10 - 15 mph on top of your top speed and considerbly cut your Q mile time.
j4ffa
at first my idea was the 1.8 zetec iv seen 2 many times people tune 2.0 up n the 1.8 n at the end the 1.8 always works out better to tune iv seen people go from 2.0 down to 1.8 because faster
Scotteh
aye if ur intention is to sell i wudnt work on the engine, as ralph sed, tis the biggest loss imo wen i get my new car im gonna be chucking loads at the engine but i dont intend to sell it as soon as ive finished

Scotteh
well if u r serious about the engine and wanna keep ur current car then id definitely go the transplant route...1.8 or 2.0 is up 2 u depending on wot u wanna pay etc

Got any examples?? There's no replacement for displacement. I've heard the 1.8 is "stronger" than the 2L, but you get that sorted if ya gonna get into proper tuning!
