Muzz
Im in the middle of purchasing a 115PS engine to swap with my 1.6 (When i get one ). What exactly do i need with the engine to make sure it works ok?? ECU, Manifolds and all the usual ancilleries. Have i missed anything? Also, what can i do with the ECU to get around PATS. Would chipping the 1.6 ECU rather than replacing it with the 1.8 ECU work? If so, where can i get the correct chip and where would be the best place to get it fitted? Or would i be better off going to an auto-sparky and getting him to rewire the ignition into the new ECU? Ta folks.

Ex-Finesse
Find a 1.8 mk6 in a scrapyard and have the ecu, ignition barrel and the circuit around the barrel. That lot should get round PATS
Lee R
What they dont know doesn't hurt them .<{POST_SNAPBACK}> you might as well go 2.0 then
Muzz
Ask rob what the scrappys round here are like, talking £250 plus for that lot . Would chipping it not get around it? Edit: Lee, the only way you can tell a 1.6 from 1.8 is the bottom end components iirc, so if i crash the insurance people probably wouldnt even be able to tell that i had a 1.8 engine where as if i have a mondeo engine it, it is slightly more obvious . A bit of modification will get rid of that . Edited June 2, 2005 by Muzz
Muzz
Just rang ford and they told me that if the vehicle has PATS already then the ECU's should swap straight over without any problems. If it hasn't he basically said dont bother. So how do you tell if it has PATS or not?

ploppy
ru saying then that for example a 2l ecu from a mondeo would still work on a different ignition barrel provided it has pats?

Plan to splice a mondeo multiplug into the escort wiring........ although mondeo owner says the car (a 1993) doesnt have PATS. Posed question on a mondy forum!
