ryanrs
I have decided to do the 2.0 conversion in my 1.8 115ps '97 GTi, seems like a pritty straight foward and easy job.. the trickyist part, i would imagin is changing the pins in the connector, to run the 2.0 ECU. Now, while my 1.8 is still in and running, i would like to convert the 2.0 ECU 1st, so the tricky part is out of the way... If i do this, and its obviously done properly, will the 1.8 lump start and run off the 2.0 ECU ?? or do i need the 2.0 lump in there? reason i would like to do it in this order, is if the 2.0 ECU is fitted and running the 1.8 , i no its all working properly.. other than changing the ECU and Engine at the same time, finding out it dont start and then having to figure what went wrong. thanx
Muzz
There is 2 posts on here that detail how to change the ECU . http://www.escortevolution.co.uk/forums/in...showtopic=49026 & http://www.escortevolution.co.uk/forums/in...showtopic=50094
Ex-Finesse
Good thinking there ryan. Remember you'll have to still change all the pins as detailed in the how-to to take into account the differences between escort and mondeo wiring looms
foxdie
what u actually do ralph, run the 2.0 as a piggy back just for the fueling?

foxdie
No mate, change the whole ecu box of tricks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Doesn't the ECU control the keys etc?
bluliz
No mate, change the whole ecu box of tricks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Doesn't the ECU control the keys etc?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> thats Pats.
Ex-Finesse
If you have a later, PATS equipped ecu, you need the chip from the key which was with that car. I don't beleive anyone has tried this, however. Easiest thing is to swap some wires for a non-pats ecu.

Ex-Finesse
That's right. My guide is based on a car with pats using a non-pats ecu. But most people here will have an aftermarket alarm / immobiliser, so lack of pats is of little worry
ploppy
if i converted my 115ps engine to a 130ps engine, will using the 2.0l ecu result in more correct fueling and therefore release the full 130ps? its just that there are 130ps ecu's in my breakers. Ex-Finesse
Use the 130 ecu mate. I have one for sale. How much can you get them for in your breakers??
