bugger  worth the drive down to sort it?

Rather a mission! and the seller won't supply address!

________________________________________________

Was all finished for ford fair :-)

Couple of things that people might find useful:

the beam was taken from a MK5 but fitted a MK6 fine, this meant the the powerflex bushes used to mount the rear beam were the smaller ones part number: PFR19-606

The powerflex anti roll bar bushes were: PFR19-608

Then a MK6 RS2000 handbrake cable was need to fit the beam, (differs from a MK5 one and Standard MK6) Ford part number: 1036202

One thing I found some people sell them without the handbrake retaining springs, or else they are so rotten they easily brake this spring:

I went into ford to ask for a spring think mmmm maybe a few £.... they wanted £160 odd, as they wanted to sell it as a kit with brake shoes!!!! Most sellers want to sell the beam complete.

So good old ebay found me one that did the job:

said spring on:

Also I discovered the blue stuff ford put on bolts is thread lock

anyway:

and got my front lower strut brace fitted, thanks to Danzetec for sending bolts very quickly!

apparently my mechanic said that the strut brace was a pain to fit and actually took the longest!

Massive thanks to Rob for finding me a million part numbers and Matt for getting them, and to Ian for selling me a decent beam!

Me thinks engine next.......

Test the car out yet with the new brace?

Make much difference?

Have you got upper & lower front & rear? if you have how does it handle? Would be interested to know!

have upper and lower front and back, and I think they make a little difference, in that there is less body roll. I did worry the ride would be too harsh but it's fine :-)

Like this car a lot John, really well thought out :)

What engine plans do you have in mind for it?

Thanks

Starting to think about the engine now, was thinking about an rs2k engine, but most are shagged!

then some-one I know is selling a nice 2.0 zetec.... but requires savings! am looking into that but so tempting to turbo it... as love the sound of a turbo

Much improved. I haven't got those springs but i need shoes so i guess it'll come with that. I noticed it was a lot slower accelerating with the disc beam on, but handled a little better. Cars looking good ;)

thanks

yeah handling is really good! Want to polybush the front to now, but trying to find the bushes cheap like I did for the rears. Didn't notice too much on the acceleration as its not a quick car (yet!) I do know that that rear beam is a lot heavier! The brake pedal is alot firmer now to push!

RS engines are cheap to buy now, though obviously more work is required to convert it. Buy one, chat to Mr Minirotty and get it rebuilt perhaps? Could have some nice useable power and they do make a nice noise!

Zetec is good though, can be done on a reasonably low budget. I think if I did it again, I'd go black top myself. I spent some time in a 2.0 black top MK2 Mondeo and really liked it, the engine seemed a bit nicer to me :)

bugger  worth the drive down to sort it?

Basically I ended up having to buy 2 lots of rear RS2000 springs One set of a trusted chap, and another off another JDMotorsport after they let me down, the ones off Jdmotorsport are shown on the right of this pic:

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/lordjc1983/Silver%20Escort/DSC02722-1.jpg

Which to me are about 40mm lower!

I had my ebach 30mm lowering springs removed and pic of one sitting next to the springs in question:

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/lordjc1983/Silver%20Escort/DSC02846.jpg

which to me are about 10mm lower

hence my conclusion that the ones supplied by the JDmotorsport are infact 40mm lowering springs (or a random spring altogether!)

oh and are "flakey"

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/lordjc1983/Silver%20Escort/DSC02847.jpg

basically the ones from the trusted chap have been fitted and all is fine on the car.

I went to return them and the company were rather unhelpful IMO, and stated:

"Lowered 40mm ? are you sure the car was standard ride height for an rs.Have you got an rs ?"

"The springs dispatched are standard escort RS2000 items. If they are lower than the ones you had thats because the ones you have are non rs sprngs. You requested standard rs2000 mk6 springs and thats exactly what was dispatched.RS Springs are lower than non rs models"

"Springs on the left are not RS2000 mate (first pic) ...RS2000 Springs have green or purple markings on them not orange. You got exactly what you ordered if they were lowered they would of been sold for more money as lowered springs as a set of 4.Its not my fault you have decided to purchase elsehwere you got exactly what you ask for which was used rs2000 springs and thats exactly what i sent you. They are flakey but they are used items not new thats to be expected of a standard item from a 14 year old car and there not broken so they are perfectly road worthy..."

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/lordjc1983/Random/springs2.jpg :innocent:

All the people I have spoken to say that an rs2000 sits 15mm lower than a standard escort....

They were eventually returned and messages ignored paypal disputed!

considering:

"JDM is a dedicated seller on this site and makes his living specifically from part sales" customer service I found to be poor. Packing a joke, no prep. And I would not use them again nor recommend them to others based on my experience.

Thinking Zetec and turbo charge it maybe at a later date, need to do more research, have spoken with Kev, still not keen on using a worn engine, the idea of a new zetec out the box sounds nice, unless I could find a nice boxed rs2k engine lol!

Popped to the breakers yesterday for a few parts and rude not to take a few pics:

just read the thread fella, keep it up :thumb:

cheers! Hopefully get a bit more mechanical as I learn and play with engines!

that black 'un looks fab  think my gti is going to be getting gloss black mondys! :O

its does, he keeps its very clean! Mine is looking grey :innocent:

Same experience as me then with JDM - my stuff was listed as good condition and low mileage yet what turned up was fit for the skip. I, like you refuse to deal with them now as it wasn't jsut once but twice - I gave them the benefit of the doubt first time

1st time no item, 2nd time springs... 3rd never again. although found they reply to emails now :-)
