MIKE W
I like this car, still love that interior too. Worth a bit them seats too because i've sat in them I didn't even steal anything either.....Must of been having an off day
meekstaaa
re-trim the arm rest in alcantara too. one way of making it look factory fit: cut small bits of wood (doweling or summing) to the height you want. Secure to the top of the tape holder flip lid thing on the back of the centre console, one in each corner. Secure the top of the wood to the bottom of the arm rest. fill the inside with expanding foam stuff. Trim to shape. Cover with something that'll make it look pretty (you'll have to work that one out) Spray black or summin. And you're done!

JC
omg only took me 2hours to read the whole lot well i love it got the same car, same colour but your wayyyyy ahead of what i wanted to do your a great insperation but as said the only thing i think it needs is a nice set off alloys would realy make the car stand out alot more than it already doesnt great work and please keep it going , ill keep watching the progress and ill be up to your standerd one day all the best, great work chris cheers - its taken a while, but i'm not in a hurry! ------------------------------------------------- How to fit a ford stereo steering remote to an escort with an alpine head unit Firstly source the stalk itself and the wiring that goes from the stalk to the stereo, this can be cut so you have the plugs either end. The head unit must be remote ready Cut the fitting part off the stalk so it can sit flush against the escort cowling http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac263/lordjc1983-2/Silver%20Escort/DSC05658.jpg so looks like this http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac263/lordjc1983-2/Silver%20Escort/DSC05657.jpg Remove the steering wheel cowling out the car and drill a hole to allow the modified stalk to fit on the side. Then using 2 self tapping screws attach the stalk to the cowling, screwing from the inside out. They plug the wire into the back of the stalk and run the wire to the back of the stereo the plug to the stalk looks like this: http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac263/lordjc1983-2/Silver%20Escort/DSC05743.jpg note there are 2 wires coming from this. the other end of the wire that will plug into the adaptor to the stereo will look like this http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac263/lordjc1983-2/Silver%20Escort/DSC05742.jpg note this has 3 wires, i couldn't trace where it went and what it did, but isn't required. You then need a Autoleads Ford Focus Mondeo Multistalk Adaptor PC99-x07 (£15 off ebay) looks like this: http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac263/lordjc1983-2/Silver%20Escort/pc99x.jpg As my stereo doesn't use the ford speaker wiring loom the ISO harness part can be cut off so you get left with just a positive and negative going to the little black box. Connect this to the plug coming from the stalk. Connect the adaptor to the ALPINE MULTI STALK STEERING ADAPTOR PATCH LEAD PC99-ALP (£4 off ebay) which will connect to the back of the stereo. Then connect the positive and negative to the stereos positive and negative wires coming to the stereo. Once all connected looks like this: http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac263/lordjc1983-2/Silver%20Escort/DSC05680-1.jpg http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac263/lordjc1983-2/Silver%20Escort/DSC05681-1.jpg I really worthwhile mod.I find it useful and looks like it came out the factory with it! I positioned it close to the steering wheel as I found it most comfortable to use there. & massive thanks for Ross for doing the wiring for me :-) Edited April 4, 2010 by Lordjc

MikeM
Thanks for the how-to mate! I will be doing that mod! I miss the controls i had in my previous cars. They are very handy
meekstaaa
very nice mate, from factory they are close to the cowling anyway so you've placed it spot on. someone else on here has placed theirs further back and it just looks uncomfortable. Also you can get different patch leads for different stereos so you don't have to just use an alpine stereo. For the people interested in this mod. I can't see it this being the mod of the moment for you escort owners
