Introducing myself and motor!

Hi to everyone

My previous cars were mainly escorts of which I had three. My last one was a pepper red SI 1.6 but had it seven years and was very reliable, but I eventually got bored with it and wanted something that looked a bit more sporty. So I decided to look for the GTI and found one quite local for a reasonable price of £700, so took the plunge.

To date its cost a fortune so far and have only had it since October. To date its had a new cambelt, drive belt, water pump, front pads and discs, rear shoes and cylinders, exhaust, coolant and oil change, clutch cable and pedal quadrant replacement.

Yet still to do, which begins next week is, lots of welding underneath (jacking points/chassis rail). Then at some point in spring both rear arches cut out and repaired as they are just starting to bubble.

Although it has cost a fair bit of cash I think its worth it as its looks in good nick for a 12 year old car.

Once all the bodywork is done then I can start to look at mods, and the first one is to drop it 30/40mm.

Enjoy the pics and please comment.

welcome to evo

nice looking gti you have whats your plans for it?

Hi

After dropping it, I will be on the lookout for some 16" Mondeo wheels, then chucking on a stainless steel exhaust, though undecided on which yet. Induction kit, then onto the i.c.e. as its all standard at the mo.

Anything else that i should do?

its your car mate its up to you

most on here tend to look the same with the mondeos and exhaust with a laguna splitter

there is of course the option of rs interior

rs engine

mondeo engine

rs accessory kit

its up to you mate as said

but a few choice upgrades would be

rear seat carpets out of an estate

six speed wiper stalks + relay

electric mirrors

intermitant rear wiper relay (found in estates)

and you can get a boot slam panel cover (think found in estates and ghias)

ghia chrome interior handles

colour coded exterior handles

now that is a fantastic looking gti!

I have to ask, instead of getting a gti, why didn't you replica the pepper red instead? would it have been cheaper?

Thx

The reason being, to be totally honest was I was never keen on the colour for some reason. I only bought it because a mate was selling it very cheap, as he just paid off the finance and wanted a new car. Also the rear arches were in a terrible state and there was a lot of work needed underneath with welding, but most of all I just fancied a 3dr instead lol!

Welcome to the site mate, looks very nice, just bought a 3dr gti to replace my 5dr finesse, that gonna cost me a few quid to sort out as well so can sympathise with that lol

Thx

So what have you got to sort out on yours then? I am sure it will be worth it coz its a nice car to drive, well compared to my old 1.6si :thumb:
