88-XR3i
this seems a good care sheet http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/cs-razrbk.htm Ive never heard of what holders can and cant be used, only when it really comes to what bulb is in use, as a cermaic bulb needs a better quality holder than a standard bulb, as the heat they give off its higher than bulbs aslong as they cant reach it, it shouldnt be an issue Edited April 6, 2010 by 88-XR3i
88-XR3i
I just read some of your posts on the RFUK site You mentioned about what to use on the bottom, and believe me its more trouble than its worth! I had stones, it held so much crap in it as they are dirty creatures, then they move it all from 1 end to another, so the rubbish gets mixed up in the water, then they move it back again...and it spoils the look of the tank Get some fake platns and just let them float in the tank, thats what I did with mine and they love it as it helps them feel secure, and they think their hiding lol! KNITERIDER
yea iv heard they are very dirty. they are big stones so hopefully will be ok, gonna have some small fish in there so may help a bit too, if it gets to grimey tho il go with floating stations etc. got a big old filter in there tho so im hoping that will tackle the worst of it and the sand is alot easier than gravel to clean too
88-XR3i
I gave up with my gravel, and thats with 2 filters!!! and considering 1 of my filters is a HUGE 18" tall filter, it still didnt work enough with gravel! I just took the gravel out and chucked it, was scratching up my tank with it as for the fish, eventually they will just eat them! KNITERIDER
lol sounds a pain. least the sand doesnt scratch either its worked well with the fish still looks like new pluss when you clean it all the dirt floats tot he top musks arent supposed to be great at catching fish so i think half a dozen minnows will be good even if its just for looks whats the smallest exo terra glow light lamp holder? is it 14cm? 88-XR3i
havent a clue to be honest! I never use the stuff like that as its over priced, and you can get the same stuff from places like B&Q for cheaper!!! Its not me being cheap, I just never see why I should pay out double just for the name, when you can get the same thing from elsewhere!
KNITERIDER
WHAT HAVE YOU USED THEN? BE GOOD TO KNOW WHAT YOU USE FOR YOUR BASKING LIGHT AND UVB LIGHT AND WHAT HOLDER ITS FITTED TO darn caps!!
88-XR3i
well, you can get some metal surrounds for lighting, with a hard plastic style holder, and attach it to the top of the land area surrounded in a cage, but depends on what your doing with your set up...I have a 3ft tank with a fully built around area so they can fully climb out of the water

88-XR3i
Basically, I got some 4x2 to make a base, then legs going up around the tank, and a part on top with some mud, although the top area is 3ft x 3ft, whereas the tank is only 3ft x 2ft that way they have a larger area to chill, yet they still prefer to stand on top of each other haha!
