Sounds about the same...Mine were old enough when I got them to not need a heater or other things

Although I did have a lid which is partly the reason why my male turtle got his RI, so I know it was my own fault, but havent made that mistake again

I thought I was doing things ok till then, but now I know, I can pass on that advice to others, and not do the same mistake again, it was gutting losing him, but not much I could do, it was a case of vets, pay what was needed, and hope for the best

Hope things go ok for you mate, just have to let me see the finished product

If you need anything answered, and if I can, then please feel free to ask away, although I wont be around for 2 weeks, but Nreg can contact me and I can pass it through him if I can answer it...On paternity leave for the next 2 weeks and dont have a pc at home since mine died! Not got round to sorting a new one out yet

chers chap, fingers crossed all will be well, il get pics up tho :) its basically stacked rocks up one end with fake plant in the corner hiding the filter outlet with one flat rock to bask on (have a spot light and a uv light) (not that i ever see them do it if they do!") the middle is empty untill the shop get some weeds in and the other end has ha fake plant too covering the filter inlet. this seems to be where they spend the night sitting in the bush with there heads poking out the water, in the day time they move between here and the rocks which makes caves for them to move between. on the bottom it has white sand (which guppies keep pooing on, not seen hardly any if any turt poo yet tho! ) there nice to watch tho,

good luck with the baby :)

thanks gringo!

While your at a reptile shop, look for the fake vines or something, come in a large packet...they are great for the turtles as they flot in the tank, cant be eaten, and are very hardy fake plants....mine have 2 set in their tank, makes them feel more secure, and more at home

not expensive either

there is some who say, you can get a large plecostamous to go in there, they are large enough to not get any agro from the turtles, and can live in warm and cold water so that wont be an issue, they will keep on top of some of the algae

the rest of the algae, you can get them twin magnet type things, 1 sits on the inside, the other on the outside, and you can move them up and down to clean the tank that way

Duckweed is ok, but it can get to the point where your over run with the stuff as it certainly lives up to the name weed! And when your bored, you remove it, then it comes back as the seeds hide in obscure areas and will sit there till its wet and starts growing again!

No, they arent really into foreign food like that hahaha!!!

Plecs do grow large, but the thing with them is, aslong as its not sharing with loads of fish then it should be ok for a few years, then you can always part with it to a fish pond and get another thats smaller, thats what I intend to do with the one I rescued, as I can give it a better home for the next few years, then when its too big then I will just give it to the place near me that has a large pond that homes them when they have out grown

although thats only if I havent fulfilled my wish or building a 8ft x 4ft tank by then hahaha!

They arent expensive...if you look around you should see young ones for about £5 or so (all depending on the shop, some are well priced, others are rip off's)

Although, the larger they are, the more the price tag...But I have seen some large plecs for £10, as to be honest, not many people want them

if your turtles are small, then try pets at home, I got mine from there and he was a baby, about 2", but now he is a good 8" and my other is 16" that I rescued

strange that it died, must have had something wrong with it as they are generally hardy creatures! And considering the conditions that our rescue 1 lived in, shows that they are hardy!! The water my other guy was forced to live in was sickening! It was stagnant, dark brown, and absolutely filthy, yet he had been living in that for ages

Righto then gents, been following this thread for some time.

My question is how do i get my Baby Royal Python to eat, i've tryed him on small mice, rat pup's, etc etc, The last couple of Pythons i had would only eat live and i'd rather not have to go though all of that again.

The snake in question is male, about 2 ft at the moment, his temp and lighting is all ok, he has putting of places to hide, he just will not eat. If i dangle a rat pup in front of him, he'll coil up and strike but he won't eat at all. I've had a word with the bloke in the shop whrere i got him from, he reckons it's could because the viv is to big for him or he is still stressed and not willing to eat.

i have a sneaky suspicion the mrs squashed it by accident when trying to net it as they are akward buggers but she said she took it out and put it int he bucket and it died (when cleaning tank)

what made the bloke decide to get rid of it? did you say anything about its state?
