88-XR3i
thing is though, not alot you can do I always advise people to get info, info and more info before you even think about getting the animal in question! Which is what your doing so all good! although it will be hard when young, but do you know how to sex the turtles?

88-XR3i
it is, which is why its best to try get them when they are older, or get a few so you can atleast get to keep the females when they are older unless your lucky!!! The easiest way I found with my YBS (and i think others are the same, but will check up on my info before I say its definate) is the tails and the front claws females have dumpy tails, and short claws, males have long thinner tails and long claws

88-XR3i
Looks cool matey! Maybe try add more red at night so you can still see whats going on, and it being red wont upset his body clock as they cant see red, as most animals are colour blind (and I can sympathise with them on this lol)

88-XR3i
Everyone seems to be getting there with their set ups! Knightrider, the only word of advice I will add is that Guppies, due to alot of inexperienced breeders, accidental breeding, and other problems that have lead to alot of inter relation breeding, they can carry diseases so you will have to be careful Alot of people have stopped mixing them with their more expensive fish due to this, and add to that fact that they can store sperm for up to 9 weeks (or more sometimes IIRC) after, dont be surprised if babies appear!!! 88-XR3i
you will get over run on them though lol! Although I understand where your coming from the only thing is, you cant really do it later on as when they become adults, its best to remove the water heater, as they wont need it, and it promotes bacteria which can lead to respitory infections and other not nice problems! Ive learned this a bit late unfortunately and lost my male turtle due to it, even after spending a fortune at the vets on drugs and drops for the little guy! Ive learned this a bit late unfortunately and lost my male turtle due to it, even after spending a fortune at the vets on drugs and drops for the little guy! from the experts iv been advised to keep the water at 24 for the first 6 months, drop a degree to 22-23 till they are a year and then remove the heater. there is no lid so not much humidity as its completely open air. this is with musk turtles i dont know if other breeds differ? 88-XR3i
Sounds about the same...Mine were old enough when I got them to not need a heater or other things Although I did have a lid which is partly the reason why my male turtle got his RI, so I know it was my own fault, but havent made that mistake again I thought I was doing things ok till then, but now I know, I can pass on that advice to others, and not do the same mistake again, it was gutting losing him, but not much I could do, it was a case of vets, pay what was needed, and hope for the best Hope things go ok for you mate, just have to let me see the finished product If you need anything answered, and if I can, then please feel free to ask away, although I wont be around for 2 weeks, but Nreg can contact me and I can pass it through him if I can answer it...On paternity leave for the next 2 weeks and dont have a pc at home since mine died! Not got round to sorting a new one out yet
