Trig
A bit more strip down has happened so that I can crack on with the repairs: Roof lining out so I can get the sunroof tray out: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/trig_112/1987%20Escort%20RS%20Turbo/20121216_194457.jpg Dash & windscreen came out so the door could come off and roof lining could come down: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/trig_112/1987%20Escort%20RS%20Turbo/20121216_194512.jpg Found a spot on the scuttle panel that needs cutting out and repairing: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/trig_112/1987%20Escort%20RS%20Turbo/20121216_194658.jpg Also came across a little hole in the floor, boo: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/trig_112/1987%20Escort%20RS%20Turbo/20121216_194523.jpg Took the arch extensions & skirts off, the front wing is goosed: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/trig_112/1987%20Escort%20RS%20Turbo/20121216_194552.jpg The sills are solid though: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/trig_112/1987%20Escort%20RS%20Turbo/20121216_194634.jpg Rear arches are spot on: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/trig_112/1987%20Escort%20RS%20Turbo/20121216_194602.jpg The plan is to sort out the roof and the driver side of the car then turn it around and tackle the passenger side. sortedford
That don't look too bad at all Have a look where the front floor meets the bulkhead- under that front sound deadening. Markc
So you used mk3 Mondy calipers with cossie 2wd discs, did you have to space the calipers out by much?I've always heard you had to run focus st170 discs with massive calipers spacers. They are ST200/24 calipers, not the mk3 300mms. I only had to space the caliper out by a couple of mm, one washer.

Trig
I took the engine and box out of this a couple of days ago, I'm getting a reasonably long list of parts required, it will be great when it is done though. It needs to be, I'm taking it to Barcelona in June! I will post some pics when I get them uploaded.

Looking good by the way and as for that rust rust...thats pretty minor stuff for a car of that age. Look forward to seeing the results. Its to raise money for Prostate UK, the mens cancer charity. Barcelona and back in 4 days! So, the other day, after a few hours work with spanners and a hoist the car is missing a little more than before: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/trig_112/1987%20Escort%20RS%20Turbo/20121228_191736.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/trig_112/1987%20Escort%20RS%20Turbo/20121228_191745.jpg The engine bay is pretty tidy, there isn't any rust repairing that needs doing, I will probably give it a blow over with a couple of rattle cans prior to putting the engine back in. I have noticed that some of the wires are a bit brittle so the wiring harness will get a good check over and any dodgy sections will be replaced and the harness will be recovered. Here is the motor on the engine stand. I will be doing all of the oil seals on this as it has a couple of leaks. The block will also be cleaned up and painted, to add some glitz and glamour to the engine bay http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/trig_112/1987%20Escort%20RS%20Turbo/20121228_191647.jpg Here is a nice little pile of engine parts, I'm running out of room for all the bits and pieces. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/trig_112/1987%20Escort%20RS%20Turbo/20121228_191659.jpg Today I hit the front wing, as the bodykit was hiding a little hole and I couldn't refit the square side repeaters. After seeing what Ian came across on his S1 with the wing off I was hoping for something that looked a bit more solid. My luck was in: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/trig_112/1987%20Escort%20RS%20Turbo/20121230_161350.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/trig_112/1987%20Escort%20RS%20Turbo/20121230_161408.jpg The white stuff is a PTFE spray, I wanted to cover the bare metal so it doesn't corrode while it is waiting for a small repair and the new front wing. There is a little patch that needs doing at the front of the sill, you can just about see it in this picture, a plate about a couple of inches square should cover sort it. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/trig_112/1987%20Escort%20RS%20Turbo/20121230_161419.jpg After a full strip down of the driver side and the front there is a grand total of 3 small patches that need cutting out and welding fresh metal in (the front panel and crossmember are spot on). Not bad for a 87 car. I still have the passenger side to investigate properly so things could get much worse.

sortedford
Looks nice and solid. You taking all the stone chip off and re-applying? Can't believe the difference a year and the design can make
Trig
Yep, all the stone chip is coming off and retreating with the stuff from Bilt Chamber, zinc primer and proper cavity wax that makes waxoil look like salt water. Here is what I have been buying (sorry, no bed sheet shots like Sidrick) This is the stuff from Bilt Hamber, cavity wax, rust remover, rust converter and weld-through primer http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/trig_112/1987%20Escort%20RS%20Turbo/20130106_135239.jpg I bought the RS accessory rear bumper when it came up on eBay, my car had them fitted from the factory/dealers so I wanted to get them, not for fitting, purely because it had them from new. I still need a front one, so if anyone comes across one, let me know http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/trig_112/1987%20Escort%20RS%20Turbo/20130106_135223.jpg Also, a full rear quarter came up on eBay, I though I would bid because I can take the bit around the window from and is the rest for making repair panels from. I won it for £0.99. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/trig_112/1987%20Escort%20RS%20Turbo/20130106_135339.jpg Some real work will carry on soon.
