wa1d3n
Can you change your standard number plate from one car to another? For example if you had 2 Escorts both on a G reg and both from the same year and both with the same engine, could you change the plates over and re register them on the other one? If you can do this how do you do it and what are the requirements etc?

wa1d3n
Because I have a car I want to get rid of with a number plate I want to keep lol
tomsy
Dont see why it should be a problem put the number plate you want to keep on retention like you would if it was a personal plate dvla will issue another registration for this car, then transfer the number plate on retention on to the car your keeping. the whole process will probably cost in the region of £200,but as long as your not trying to make an older car appear younger should be ok. PeeWee
I thought retaining a plate was more in the region of £80?
snoopaloopa
It is but then you have the transfer fees etc...............

shawdreamer
Can you change your standard number plate from one car to another? course ya can. they just need to be the same colour and model. then you can fill up at any petty station for free, never get a camera speeding fine or need worry about tax, mot or insurance

wa1d3n
If I am honest I ask myself the same question but I can’t bring myself to part with the car and I guess this is my half way mark keeping the number plate lol I have been in contact with the DVLA and they say that in some cases you can change the number plate, you need to make an enquiry to them to see if it is possible to do so, if it has a history with the police or has been involved in a crash then it’s unlikely. To check you go to www.direct.gov.uk/emaildvla The click on personalised Number Plates > any enquiries not listed > in the description you put in your Reg and name and ask if this number plate is transferable. If yes then you need to fill in a V317 and include the Log Book and MOT (if the car is SORN then you need to include a covering letter saying why it is SORN) and post this to your nearest DVLA office There is a £105 cost to put it on retention but it’s free to transfer it to another car You can put it on any Make of car of the same age or older. tomsy
Nothing wrong with being sentimental about a car or plate, i remember my first plate mtk118r on a yamaha FS1E good luck with your swap
wa1d3n
Its not my first car but it is my first escort and I have dreamed of owning one since I was little so I guess that's why this one means a lot lol the plate is F111 YON. We was going up the hill on louth by pass behind an rs turbo and I just loved how they looked, next thing he put his put down and the back end sort of went a bit lower then shot passed the car in front and since then I have wanted one lol
tomsy
I can see why you want to keep the plate its kinda interesting but not if that makes sense, have owned 2 rs turbos a series1 and a show winning series2 probably one of the best cars i've owned
