Remeber this from EP! lol

Don't bother with the itbs mate you'll get about 130-140 and it's just not worth the cost, st170 engine can retain the vvt if you use standalone management. And that's an engine that has alot of potential!!

I'm doing something similar when mine comes off the road, already got:

Compmo's

6 point cage with door bars

Avo Coilovers with adjustable top mounts

300mm front brakes

Wheels came with the car but the rest owes me about £400 so no bad :)

itb's i won't be getting just yet but i see m-tech do a full set with management for £1200 plus vat which isn't too bad considering omex do the set up for £2400 lol but its a thought for now. and yeah matey i'm looking to get a full roll cage soon and getting better brakes soon maybe depending on whether i can shift some crap etc lol

As much as I love the ST170 engine, its not worth doing for the money it would cost you, they're a heavy engine and if you're spending money on engine changes, Duratec is the way to go, nice ST150 or 2.0L Mondeo engine. Otherwise you may as well retain the 2L Silvertop and spend your money tuning it.

duratec would be nice but i have do weld new mounts etc and new wiring loom i'd rather keep it simple i've seen st170 engines in escorts without the 6 speed box as where to fit a blacktop its only a minor modification to the rear mount and bolt on the standard box maybe upgrade it lsd to cope with the power.

keep it as a 2.0l with a set of bike carbs on it running a megajolt ignition and it'll have roughly the same power as a standard ST engine so its a waste of time putting the ST engine in it especially with the amount of work that will be involved with making it fit

what suspension are you using

i have koni shocks on mine and it handles quite well and surprises a few people on track with the performance

the 2.0 has long gone. its solid piece of rock or a big paper weight bottom end seized up due to fubar'd oil pump! got rid of it next day to someone who wanted to turbo it! bike carbs would be good with the megajolt ignition but not sure it would be worth it to go through the aggro getting them all set up right and plumbed in right where as i could save for a set of jenveys which are pretty much bolt on with the right adaptor. plus i know of one guy who fitted a st170 engine with twin 40 carbs, rebuilt the bottom end and with a blacktop head got around 225bhp and he has nitrous too so it was pretty quick!

i'm using spax rsx coilovers second hand as they were cheap but in decent nick so i thought they would do for now! set it to medium hard setting on the ride. and set it to sit just above the tyres

you mean for the vvt/vct? the engine won't be staying standard would be either removing the st170 to be replaced with a modified 2.0 blacktop head with jenveys or if i can just buy the st170 bottom end along with the 2.0 blacktop head that should pretty much solve it. then i'll just build it up from there until the current 1.8 goes boom or wimps out. then it will go in. when i have it that is

well just prefer having the st170 bottom end as the pistons are high comp ones. but i'll see for now and see what is out there. if you come across any st170 standard pistons and rods etc or a full engine for dead cheap wink wink let me know bud!

  • 2 weeks later...

update got some new manifold studs and nuts and thought I would temporarily fit the exhaust manifold

before anyone says it, its not an ashley exhaust manifold, its a trust electric stainless steel one. for those who know who this company was, it was a japanese company but they produced these manifolds for fords a while ago. and these are port matched for the 1.8 silvertop and i think 2.0 one as well. so this should make exhaust flow a bit better, and to help on temperatures i wrapped it in black exhaust heat wrap! hopefully should be alright to use for track! that is all for now

i'm still deciding on what inlet i should run, as i'm more thinking shall i save for jenveys and run a standard inlet or get the cheaper option of bike throttle bodies!
